Just did the dove opener. Can't really call it hunting, you stand around with other sausages in a field hoping the doves are stupid enough to fly by.

Leaving tomorrow for an archery deer hunt and then a archery elk hunt in Colorado.

I will be here shortly. I've had my TE about a month and a half and just kind of set it up this weekend for our deer opener which is Saturday here in Oregon.

Then, next Thursday I'm off to central Wyoming for my annual antelope hunt so will see how it does in the Wyoming desert Should be fine with the new Duratracs.

This one replaced my 2003 Sport Edition 4Runner which sure worked out great as a hunting rig.

Sh*t, the Dog and I are Bird Crazy!

What better excuse to get these things offroad than to use it to get back to those hard to reach hunting spots? Woohoo! arty:

Last two weekends I've loaded up the dog and hit up the public land in my area for ruffed grouse. Haven't hit anything yet though - I'm still really rusty from lack of shooting practice, and there are a lot of leaves on the trees yet.

Last weekend my buddy and I got it back on some rutted, rocky unmaintained forest roads in the county land. Took it through one mud pit that even bottomed it out. I'm still on stock suspension and tires, so of course the first thing I did was go home and tell the wife, "See look, I bottomed out because I don't have enough ground clearance. That's why I need new springs and shocks."

And do you know where that ended up for me?

I feel your pain brother. Here is what worked for me. At the very least, try to get LT tires (Larger size especially taller). The way I did it is to complain about the "soft" OEM tires as being unsafe. When the better half started to argue, I simply said let's take a ride. First, I had her driver her car. No problems because the tires matched the car. (2009 Nissan Murano). Then, and here is the key, after driving her car, I had her drive the 4runner ON A CURVY ROAD. Then I explained to her as she freaking about the body sway and "soft" feel, it was because the soft "P" metric tires and such a heavy vehicle and really, it was unsafe. Of course she started cursing the fact Toyota would be so stupid as to put such tires on in the first place. I agreed. Then I offered suggestions as to why. Cost, comfort for mall crawlers and soccer moms etc. But then I said, it can all be cured and the whole family can be "SAFER" with LT tires, shocks, etc. etc. It worked. You will be amazed with the attitude turn around when including the family and safety together. Give it a try, you might want to send me a case a beer when it is all said and done! (Or not). Oh, by the way, since you have already been shot down now, you might want to wait a week or two before following my advice......:cheers:
