Why 20 inch tires on Ltd?

I did read/search the forum.... so, why did Toyota put 20in tires on the Ltd? Yes, fuel economy is a good reason, but why didn't Toyota put a more standard wheel rim on this car?

There are no good options to replace them -- maybe two options before you are looking at going to 'non' standard size that could have safety and insurance implications...

So, what is a good solution? Can you even take the this car off road with 20in wheels?

I have a good deal waiting for me on a Ldt ($38k), but have no interest in spending another $$k to get a better tire on....

Ideas?

Replace with 17" off SR5.

20s are more mall friendly. That's where 90% of LTD owners will take them (not on this forum obvs).

Thanks ... I did see that post... It seems crazy that you would have to buy a new car and trade out the tires and wheels --- and worry about about chop job to make 'normal' size tires fit.

I have 2005 4r, but just have to wonder WTF was Toyota thinking when they put 20in wheels on this car. Just does not make sense.

The new TRD 6 lug 17's will be out in a month or so and I will probably buy those.

Do you know how the ride/drive characteristics might change with 17ers?

With the same type of tire, it should make the ride a little less firm because of the added sidewall. May not be as firm cornering. A lot of guys have switched and can answer better than I can. Also, you will be able to air-down more for off-road, sand, etc...

You will have more options for tires.

Don't know what you mean about "chop job" to make the 17s fit. They are stock on the SR5 and TE.

Look at the TRD 17" Forged Off-Road Alloy Wheels. They will have these in a six lug version available in a month or so. I spoke to the designer at TRD.

I was not sure if adjustments had to made to the wheel well -- some limited owners have had rubbing issues attempting to install non - standard wheels on the OEM rims.

20"+ wheels are what's in and look around at the other vehicles everybody has a big rim option and the Limited is more aimed at the street going buyer so you get the bigger fancy rims.

I did test drive a LTD today... very nice ride...

I agree - 20in + is in.... just does not work for me in CO. The car will go off road on occasion. It is impossible to avoid this temptation in Colo.

Not all limited owners go to the mall, clowns... so quit profiling. The limited is just a better fit for everyday life where I live. If getting the better on road ride is the solution, then so be it. There's nothing stopping me from swapping the wheels out when I do venture an hour away and hit the unbeaten paths.

It must be possible to get a 17" rim on them - what would owners do for winter tires otherwise? In Canada its virtually impossible to get that tire size by the way - unless you are prepared to sacrifice your first born child to the stealership.
