And I have always wanted one since I was a teenager.
And because I could not break my last Toyota.

And so I would not have to deal with the bro's and their spelling and their brodozers in a pickup truck forum. Sadly, my 4Runner time looks like a short one, as family outgrew the thing faster than I thought they would, so off to "hang with the bro's I go" :((

Not necessarily in order

Toyota - this is my 6th new Toyota, but wife got the first 5

Looks - gorgeous

4WD - with business in Durango, MUST drive the old trails to the north

Highway - round trip to SoCal every 6 weeks or so, so good highway handling is a must

Last but definitely not least - hood scoop!!!

Aw heck no, that ain't covered bro.

Still shopping, since we need a front bench seat, all that the Tundra comes in is a work truck and a single interior color. And I had hoped the 2014 would be more compelling. Argh.

It might just be a Ram 1500. I know, I know, blah blah reliability, resale, and Fiat. I can get it cheap for some amount under invoice, minus incentives, and I need to add no mods to it. Tundra costs less, but needs ~4k in mods to be on par in terms of (most) features, which one never gets credit for in resale.

There is no way I can deal with Ford, and I have problems sending my money to Mexico - something about blaming my freedoms for their troubles, when it's our lack of freedoms that's causing it, but I digress.

And Nissan Titan bench seat models don't come with a tow package.
 
Bought a 4Runner because it was the only vehicle that made me grin from ear to ear when I test drove it. :D

We looked at everything while SUV shopping... actually went to the Toyota dealership to drive the Highlander and Venza and told the salesman to grab the keys to a 4Runner as well (I have always loved the looks of the 5th Gen but for some reason figured it was too much vehicle for what I would use it for.) Drove all three vehicles back to back. Went home wanting the 4Runner. Still had more vehicles to drive though. It ended up coming down to the 4Runner vs. Subaru Outback. My husband really liked the Outback but I didn't and it's my daily driver so I got final decision :).

We are excited to have our first Toyota after having 4 Nissans, 3 Jeeps, 2 Subarus, a Ford, a Mercury and a VW.

I enjoy driving it everyday. I like the interior and exterior styling, the way it drives and the dependability of it being a Toyota.

Because when I was in high school I used to drool over the 1st, 2nd, and brand new 3rd gens (rich kids) that were in the parking lot. It is essentially my favorite vehicle of all time. I'm not even exaggerating when I say that I didn't even test drive a 5th gen before buying one. Drove a bunch of my friends 4th gens. I ordered mine through the toyota freinds and family program so i didnt even have to go to a dealer before picking it up. A year and 20k miles later....still no regrets.
 
Pretty much for the same reasons everyone else has mentioned. The big thing for me was that I still have my 97 4Runner that I bought new and it currently has 172,000 miles and it's still running strong. What more of a testament to the reliability of these trucks.
I also held out for the 5th gen because it is exactly what I was looking for. More cargo room and larger truck in general without having to go to the Sequoia (too big). Hopefully this one will last as long as my 3rd gen has.
 
Many of the same reasons as everyone else has mentioned. I still have an old 11-year old Lexus IS 300 that has never had a problem, so I have long been sold on the Lexus/Toyota reliability.

I wanted 4WD (rear) and would prefer it to be part-time 4WD to improve the gas mileage for trips to Colorado property all winter long.

I have had the vehicle for about two months now, and I still go out in the garage and just sit in the thing without even going anywhere. Am I the only one that does this?

I had in my head I would get a 4R all along. To be fair, I test drove a Ford Explorer, Nissan Xterra, and a Nissan Pathfinder. Those things all drove like trucks (especially the Explorer). The 4R handles much like the little Lexus sports car.

Plus, they just look awesome.

Seriously I bought mine because my wife let me buy it.

I had a 3rd Gen for a year and when I saw mine I was like , I am getting this one for sure.

Safety for the family, reliable, off road capable ( I tired it in the firsts months I got it, fishing trip all the way up north and it was great. I am going back this year again.

Looks badass, good towing capability, don't see a lot of them on the road, at least where I live. It must be like baseball cards the less there is the more valuable they are.... it may be just the collector side of me.

From reading threads every week, infinite modding which is amazing also.

Looks like a real damn Four by Four not the cheap looking SUV's out there.
 
Keep them coming guys and gals...it's really interesting seeing the reasons for the purchase, except for Antman, I mean you can make cup holders in anything....LOL
 
Totaled the 2010 Xterra Off Road (other guys fault). The 4Runner test drive sold me with the comfort and quality feel of everything. Costs more but worth it. With factory remote start, clear mask, Nav and KDSS my Internet quote was $37,765 from an MSRP of $41,860 with no haggling.
