Why did you buy your 4 Runner?

We have a 2000 Tundra that has ben a great truck. We also have a 95 Nissan 2WD pick-up that has been a great truck with 175K miles. I was looking at another Tundra, but having 3 trucks didn't make sense; so we got the 4Runner. I didn't like the Titan anyway. Not rated very well.I also studied a little about the TPS (Toyota Production System) and how their vehicles are built.

I have had the vehicle for about two months now, and I still go out in the garage and just sit in the thing without even going anywhere. Am I the only one that does this?

I've had the truck for only a month but i still do this almost every day.

I've always admired 4runners.. My first time driving one was a 4th gen on a road trip and fell in love with its comfort and durability and when the 5th gen came out, I instantly fell in love with its aggressive and beefy styling, but for a college student at the time, it was way too expensive so i started obsessing over the less expensive fj cruiser.

When it was time to buy a new car, the sugar mama wanted something more luxurious and not so utilitarian, so we test drove a few cars before we found a t4r within our price range (private seller on craigslist).... Went to check it out and right then we knew we had to get it.

After test driving a few, I couldn't get over the thought of being invisible in another crossover "dildo car" as I called it so I pulled the trigger on something masculine and I am happy about that.

Masculinity is only skin deep I suppose because I get crushed off the line by Kias and stuff, and just have to surrender in situations where I could get ahead of traffic. I'm really gonna need that supercharger to come out pretty quick or it will be time to move on because for this size of car the engine is as effective as a hamster running on a wheel imo. God knows I have tried to accept it, but I cannot.

I traded my Titan because I couldn't deal with the bad gas mileage anymore and I was tired of driving pickups anyway.

4Runner gets good mileage, has room for the family, can tow reasonably well, handles abuse, goes like hell in the snow, is reliable, easy to work on, plenty to mod, and I think it looks cool too.

BTW- You are banned from the Cupholder Mod Club (CMC).

You need the right-foot modification.

They have programmed the transmission and throttle for economy, and you really have to put your foot down to get moving but when you do the acceleration is not bad. It's the partial throttle acceleration which isn't great. Check the 0-60 times of the competition if you need affirmation.

I needed a reliable work vehicle to travel 900+km to site that could hold a bunch of tools and personal gear. Naturally I looked into a truck. But after driving just about every truck on the market, I found I'm just not a truck guy. Looked into an SUV and was initially thinking of a 2000-2001 4Runner Limited. However the cost is insane for how many miles are on them, so I looked at the 4th gen and also a Pathfinder. Nearly bought a V8 4R but one day, a 2010 showed up on Kijiji, wife lost her job and in I came. Posted that morning, sold that night 18,000km and 10K off of buying new :wow2: Wish the interiors were nicer, really like the interior of the 4th gen limited but for the price, it was a no-brainer. Now that I have it, I'm in love and will never sell it. Which says something for how often I went through vehicles before.

The secondary reason was I wanted a vehicle big enough to take camping/hiking and hold 4-5 people comfortably, fitting everyone's backpacks/gear in the back. My step-dad is 6'5 and with the seat all the way back in the front, he could still fit in the backseat.

Things just worked out and I couldn't be happier.

I bought mine simply because my 2 seater Tundra turned out to be completely impractical and I figured I'd get a better trade in value at a Toyota dealer. I honestly wasn't very excited about the 4 Runner at first, but I wanted a body-on-frame SUV and it fit the bill. The Blizzard Pearl with tan interior was the color combination I wanted, and one was available nearby. After a few months and some mods to make it look more truck-like, I really started to love it. Its now my absolute favorite vehicle out of the many I've owned. I really need a pickup, but I love the 4 Runner so much that I can't bring myself to give it up. I've found some creative ways to get around the lack of a pickup bed like installing a full cargo liner in the back and renting trailers when I really need to haul something substantial.

Same thing here, I was originally looking for 3-4 years old 4th Gen Limited/Sports but prices are from mid 20K to low 30K. CAA's Car Cost Canada helped me save money and find out reduced prices for brand new T4R.

Short Answer: Looking for something that can do (most) everything. Replacing my 1998 Ram 1500 Quad 4X and my 2010 Rav4 Sport with the 4Runner and upgrading my utility trailer.

I already have that modification haha! I am on it all day every day, my average MPG is currently 12.9 (not proud just sayin) and I have yet to have a fun moment. 0-60 times in the mid-high 7 second range is honestly not fast enough (for me).

I said it before in a couple of other threads though, everything else about the truck exceeds my expectations every single day.

I bought mine because going to the snow in a 350Z was near impossible. Plus I could not carry a mountain bike in it either. Plus I have wanted a 4Runner since I was 15 and looked at a 1st Gen that got sold before I could buy it.

Then the truck morphed into a tank.

That's interesting because I just checked my instant on the way home and was averaging 20.6 with granny driving. I really don't know how your mileage could be so bad, my Hemi Jeep got those mpg's. while it may not feel fast due to less torque than a V8 even the new Hemi GC's with 360hp aren't that much faster... If you need speed I would look into a sports car for the weekend.
