Why didn't you buy a Tacoma or Nissan X-Terra or.....

I used to be a Nissan guy but after they brought in the outsider Mr.Goon to run the Company on the cheap I said good bye to them. I always wanted a Toyota product and was mis guided in 03 with a bad choice onm my part worthless Kia Sorento. Now I am happy with a nice Toyota 08 SR5 v6 2wd.

I had an xterra for 3 years ;2005. with 40000 miles on it the timing chain guide and tensioner broke. Nissan had to replace both components and both timing chaing. Thank god it was covered under warranty but that was enough for me to trade it in for my 4runner. I will tell you though that the 4 runnin is such a smoother ride and the quality of the truck is awesome.

We got both. We have an '07 Xterra and an '07 4runner SR5. The 4runner was about $4000 more, got it for 26500. I love the 4runner, would not get an Xterra. My husband loves his Xterra, would only buy a 4runner if there was no Xterra or the 4runner was diesel. Both have over 22K, none of them had any problem. The 4runner has much better ride. Both great off-road, or on the snow. About the same with gas. Also had an '06 Tacoma Xrunner, (the only way it comes is with 6spd manual, rear wheel, extended cab). It sucked in wintertime (with the stock 18" performance tires) and I got tired that my husband took my previous '04 4runner to get around in the snow. SUV is better for most of the time. Easier to carry stuff, more room for the dog, bike, skis or just to go to shopping.

If the Taco offered the 4.7 I would be in one.

The V8 was only reason I went with the 'Runner.

I currently own an extended cab Taco with 4WD. Got it brand new in 1998 and currently have 290,000 miles on it with the original engine and transmission. I love this truck, however i always needed more room for passengers and random crap. So I got a v8 4Runner...and i love it.

I think you need to ask yourself weather you need a SUV or a pickup. With your family and all...i would opt for the 4Runner.

3) solid rear axle over IRS Nissan
4) Toyota reliability
5) Looks
6) full time 4wd with a real low range transfer case
7)Easier to find than a V-8 pathfinder, bigger aftermarket, etc.

I previously owned a Tacoma and now have a 4runner. The Tacoma was a rougher ride and had less power. The Tacoma lost power going up hills when towing an aluminum boat. The V8 4runner is much better suited for towing and a much smoother ride. The 4runner also has more room for the family. The full time four wheel drive is a nice feature - you never have to debate whether you should be riding in four wheel drive when the roads are not so good.
