Hmmm this is a very interesting thread... Here's why:
For one this thread started as a b*tching thread about how FJ guys act like Jeep guys. But in the same sense all of you that are complaining about it are partaking in the same thing. It went to how the 4R is better than the FJ and then started to tear into the different generations. Then moved on to comparing Jeeps to 4Rs and then Jeeps too Jeeps. There where a few posts that where highly for some reason disregarded, but should have been paid attention to. When it comes down to the capability of a rig (tool) it is only as capable as the driver (operator). Anyone can use a hammer, but only the experienced can use it to build a house (correctly).
Comparison of a jeep to Toyota is a stupid argument. MOST jeeps still come with a solid front axle. The one that are "pavement pounders" don't as IFS is a more comfortable ride when used on road and these models are advertised for "Offroad capable" not as "built for Offroad". Where is it that a lot of Toy guys go after so long??? SAS. Even jeep guys will swap out their axles for beefier ones. Why were you guys fighting over stock angles when a lot of the time your just going to lift it and put bigger tires on it anyway?
My previous rig was a 95 Jeep GC that I had a Spartan locker in with 31" BFG ATs and folded fender lips. I took that thing a lot of places off and on road. I went up things I shouldn't have. Beat the crap out of it. Drove it cross country 8 times. In comparison to the 4R I have now it is night and day as far as COMFORT goes. But off road capabilities stock there wasn't much difference. Granted there was some differences but not much.
I wheel with Jeep, Suzuki, Toyota, Dodge, Ford, Mitsubishi, and GMs. My brother has an H1 Hummer. <=== most purpose built vehicle, but even it too has its limits. My buddy has a crew Tacoma on 35s, another buddy a TJ on 35s, another buddy old 80s dodge on 40s.
Met a guys that was wheeling a Suzuki sidekick up rattlesnake in Utah. Yeah he didn't do the big stuff but he did do the smaller stuff but he was out doing what he loves. Like everyone of us!!!
Why do you all care what other people think of their rigs compared to others? Why is it that on this thread your doing the same thing your complaining about?
I don't care what you drive. If it has has 4 wheels and ground clearance, my opinion is this: LET'S GO!!!
(Yes some of you saw my rant on TW about lowered "pimped" trucks. Still can't stand them and that is my own opinion. I think they are stupid but it is what they love so that is their thing. Doesn't mean I have to like it lol.)
