I think that the problem with "Newbs" not searching and starting threads that have been done before is that the search function in Tapatalk stinks. If I'm using this forum through that app and I search, the relevant threads never show up. If I search straight in Google (as 1E detailed in his sticky), I can usually find everything I need.
See, that's one of the biggest issues. A lot of folks don't use the google machine. On every single new thread that I have seen pop up, I go to Google, type in: 5th Gen T4r, (subject/question). 95-98% of the time, I find at least two or more threads on the subject (I also usually scroll through the thread to make sure there is pertinent info in there before pasting it into my response). The other 3-5% of the time I get back to the thread in question, and someone else has already found the answer and followed up with the appropriate thread.
I think a lot of folks join just to ask a quick question... they don't bother reading the rules, or the stickies (with instructions on how to search), and they have no desire to be a "part of the community". They have an attitude and have no desire to contribute. So they blindly post up a new thread. The "community" then posts on their thread with how to search and they get offended because someone was "rude" (by explaining how to search) or closed their thread (because there's already half a dozen of the same thread).
Using T4R on a PC is a much better experience than Tapatalk. The tapatalk app does not equate to actually using the T4R site on a computer. Not by a longshot.
Also.... there are a TON of threads started in the 5th Gen section that are A. not relevant to the 5th gen or B. Relavant to all generations of the 4Runner. THIS is the #1 reason why threads get moved. Because they are not relevant...
On the individual that started the thread that got out of hand and closed (re: Orange Boxx)... if you go to the classifieds section there is a specific thread that talks about experiences with vendors(
http://www.toyota-4runner.org/feedback-sellers-buyers/ )... this would have been the appropriate place to start the subject. Yes I realize it was 5th gen related (sort of, but not really as it was in reference to the vendor and a product they produced and subsequent communication with said vendor). Orange Boxx makes things for several different models of Toyotas and generations of 4R, not just the 5th gen. While you may have felt your situation was specific to the 5th Gen, this is doubtful.
Soooo here's my last point... if you are ONLY using this forum via the Tapatalk App... you are missing out of the great plethora of information that is on the site as a whole. If you are too busy to "search" then you are truly not looking for a community to be part of. If you post up a new thread to ask a new question, you definitely did not read the rules or the stickies and you probably don't need to be here anymore. I have basically done my entire build without posting a "NEW" subject asking questions. The latest task is a dual battery setup... for me this was not easy (having no previous experience in electrical) but I have been able to get my wiring diagram done based on the information I found here by searching.
As was said by a previous poster, time is our most valuable asset. I am grateful of the time that 1engineer has contributed to this community. IF he does go, I will be sad to see him leave. He has cleaned house which is what this (sub-) forum needed. A couple years ago I almost left, as I was personally attacked (see my previous post on this). But... I stuck it out and in the end I am glad I stayed. There is a wealth of knowledge and information here.... and I kinda like you guys.
