Why do you prefer Duratracs to BFG T/A KOs?

Guys,

I'll be taking delivery of a new Trail Edition within the next couple of weeks. One of my first stops will be to my local tire retailer to swap out the Dunlop AT20s for something more performance oriented. I will not be doing any real challenging "off roading", per se', but I am an avid hunter/camper. Most of my (camper) camping is done away from designated campgrounds in places that have occasionally made me appreciate having a Jeep as a tow vehicle.

I've used DuraTracs on the Jeep and have been quite pleased with that tire, but I have no personal experience with the BFG T/A KOs that I am also considering for the Trail Edition, which will be a shared daily driver during the week and a hunting/camping vehicle on the weekend. Frankly, I am thinking that I'd like a tire that is a little less aggressive looking for the TE- and hence the reason for considering the BFG T/A KO. I'm sure the T/A KO will suit me fine for the "off roading" I do associated with my hunting/camping. My question is, is the BFG a suitable tire for a daily driver?

I'd sure appreciate some feedback from those who have firsthand familiarity with both of these tires.

Check out the "Performance..." section--there's at least one whole thread regarding this very comparison, and it's been there a while, so it has plenty of responses.

you cant go wrong with either tire, BFG T/A KO is time and time again proven all terrain tire and argueably the best one on the market. but it has an aged tread pattern and the Duratracs look really cool and while theyre relatively new tire they are showing the signs of being a great tire.

so my opinion is go with whichever you can get cheaper, or whichever one you think looks best. because they both will suite or on and off road needs i think.

Check out this thread that I started a while back. I found some really good advice from smart fellas on this forum. It's going to be a hard decision to choose between the two but you can't go wrong with either of them! :cheers:

Congrats on your TE acquisition, which color did you get?

I went went silver, mostly because I live off a dirt road and silver shows a little less dirt than black and gray.

I just finished reading this excellent review that TOPDECK wrote in regards to the TE that he equipped with "bigger and stiffer BF Goodrich A/Ts" and mentioned that the tires helped reduce the nose dive issue coming from the stock suspension. I'm sure this is not all tire brand related but the review gives you a general idea of the tire size and higher load rating that you should be aiming for. Can't wait to see the pics once you get your new TE with different shoes! :snacker:

IMO and experiences with both tires I'd take the Duratracs over the BFGs in part due to my truck being a DD and if you spend more time on the pavement than in the dirt the Duratracs outperform the BFGs in wet and dry grip and while the BFGs would get the nod with a tad more off road durability it's not like the GYs are a slouch and never have been an issue on or off road in the 2 and half years I've driven on them.

I went with the duratrac because of their performance and the lack of performance by the BFG ATs on my work truck.

118 miles and my TE got new shoes! Tread Lightly! Has a rebate offer for them as well. 100 off in addition to the Goodyear Rebate for 60 back too

I think they look better than the KO's and have heard they are better on the street.
