Why negative offset causing more rubbing?

Posting in 5h gen forum as my question is in particular about TRD OR vs TRD PRO wheels for this gen.
So, TRD PRO wheels have more negative offset rather than regular TRD wheels.
Negative offset means wheel is pushing out of well.
So why pushing wheel out of well means more rubbing?
Is not it opposite - so the wheel touches less things in the well?

It would move wheel away from suspension but when making lock-to-lock turns it may cause some contact with with wheel well either front or rear I think is what happens.

Yep, it brings the leading edge/corner of the wheel/tire closer to the bumper when maximum steering input is applied. Can also bring it closer to the body mount too.

That explains things.

I eventually want to put 285s on TRD PRO wheels but I strictly do not want to touch body mounts (cutting/pushing fender liners, pushing mudguards is OK).
If it will not be possible, around 1-1.5" lift will be also possible.

It's not really the wheel well that changes from inboard to outboard.

Think of it this way. The pivot point of steering is fixed for the wheel. When you widen the wheel or push it further away from the pivot point and turn it, it has a wider arc. Short vs. long arm. It pushes the outer edge corner of the tire further outboard, but when turned that translates into more forward/aft displacement.

It's called "scrub radius." Moving the wheel outboard of the steering centerline results in a negative scrub radius, which can cause the tire to rub on the fender. Here's another image:

Now it absolutely explains the reason.
Looks like lift will not help there too much, so may be I'll stuck with 275 tires then, it's a pity there is not a lot of C-loads there not talking about SL ones :(.

I thought the same thing about negative giving me more space. Thanks for this as that explains a lot!

Here is my Pro with 1.6" Eibach springs in front and 1" in rear with 285's. Zero rubbing while turning. Haven’t had heavy off road yet.

Mine is basically the same as DallasTRDPro including tires, except I am running 1.5/1” Cornfed spacers on my Pro. No mods or rubbing with 285’s. Still have my front mud flaps. On the Pro the combination of the wheel width and offset along with the port fender mod creates no rub and very minor rub in maximum articulation conditions off road. Center of hub to front arch = 22.5”, rear = 23.25”. Go 285’s. You won’t regret it.

Looks really great and sounds very promising!
You mentioned very minor rub offroad - what place is it rubbing?
I did a 128 mile Offroad trip a few weeks ago and there would be a very slight scuff once in awhile on the front inner fender liner.
