Why NOT to go to gas-station car-washes (duh)

So I got lazy and decided I'd get a basic "rinse" (wash) from the gas-station car-wash because the runner has some mud/dirt on it. My usual car wash (the good one) is a ways out of my way home and I need to hurry and take my youngest son to swim lessons after work.

Big mistake.




I know, I know...never go to these ass-hats...I messed up. Filled out a form and they're supposed to be in touch. Also sent pics and description to my ins. agent, just in case. :frusty::gun5::hunter:

I honestly might see how they play this. If it's a check, I may consider removing the deflector and using the check elsewhere. Anyone else go deflector-less and have any input?

Not really deflectorless without the plastic uptop, notice how Toyo designed the glass top, as it opens an air dam moves up slightly into place to deflect what Toyo thought was the appropriate amount of air, just enough to push most over and leave some coming in, I guess a matter of taste as to how much, the plastic uptop just takes more air out of the equation but most is already gone with Toyo's device. Just a thought....

None of my 8 cars with power moon/sun roofs ever had a deflector. Never felt the need I guess. They look wicked cool tho

So you're going to claim it on your insurance if the car wash place tells you to pound sand?

Wouldn't it've been easier to buy a new one, put it on, and bring the car wash place the receipt? If they pay it, great, if not, lesson learned.

No I'm not paying a deductible for a visor. But I always apprise my agent of any incidents. He's working with the car wash on the reimbursement, in fact. D
Says should be no sweat, as his agency actually insures a few car washes in town (not this one)

WTH that's insane, you took your car to get it washed an didn't think you'd ruin your sunroof visor?? I'm almost positive car washes tell you to put down ur antennas and not to go in if you have things it can potentially break. Nobody should pay for your stupidity. I'm sure your insurance agent laughed all night long over this, he's probably still laughing.

They're paying for it and my ins agent confirmed they do it all the time. So...

Also, know what broke it? The squeegee thing at the end just hung up there until I was directly underneath it then it dropped like a ton of bricks, smashing down on the visor. It was clearly a malfunction.

I thought it was common knowledge that those machine washes are junk. I have never even considered driving up to one. The only thing worse than that are those fundraiser car washes. You don't know WTF is in that bucket (I recall my high school using windshield washer fluid :wow and they always drop the sponge on the ground. I don't let other people wash my vehicles in general.
