Why would my alternator relay blow??

Went for a run to the bush, went into some deep muddy waters (i knew i shouldnt have) soon after alternator went, put in a new one, 20 mins later the radio and tachometer and all the electronics turned off but car was still running. turned off the car, wouldnt start again, but would start with a rolling start. anyways after looking around found that my alternator relay went, anyone know why/how that would go??

I doubt it is an ALternator relay as there is no such thing on any 4runner.


It might be the starter relay but in all reality, I think you blew a fuse.

There's a few alternator fuses that could have blown.
Relays don't typically "blow" unless there is serious electrical issues.
And a "blown" relay simply stays in one position (the un-energized position).
A little troubleshooting would easily show you where exactly the circuit went open.
