Wierd Question About Parking Lights

I know this is confusing, but if you need me to better describe the question to get an answer please do.

OK so I am somewhat confused and hope someone can help-

I have a 2005 SE, I have noticed on other 4Runners that the parking lights are on during the day, you know the same light that flashes for turn sigs.

I THINK I have day time running lights but how can I confirm? My odometer lights up during the day, is that normal or an indication that I do have DTRL's?

And would this mean that if I don't have Day Time Running Lights the reason my parking (turn signal)lights don't come on?

The only lights that do turn on when I put my parking lights on are the ones housed in the headlight fixtures. That being said, which models are those that have the option that makes the turn/parking light turn on when you have the parking lights turned on or not?

The turn signal lights and parking lights are NOT the same thing. The parking light is the orange light beside the headlight and the lower bumper lights are the turn signal lamps. 4Runners use the TURN signal lights as DRL and not the parking lights.

Get someone else to put it in drive with handbrake off and take a look. Even easier, wait until it is dark outside and put your car in drive with handbrake off and see if your 4Runner is shining orange light out the front. I do not know about the gauges.

The parking lights have nothing to do with the turn signals.

Sorry, can you rephrase this question? It's just confusing to read.

The turn signals are down by the fog lights (lower bumper) from 2003-2005. In 2006, the turn signals moved up next to the headlights with the side markers. That might be part of the confusion.

Long story short, if you have DRL's, there will be amber/orange lights on the front of your truck with no other lights on. The parking brake will shut off DRL's, so leave the parking brake off, and also leave the headlight/parking light swith off. If you still have light, you have DRL's.

The dash lighting doesn't tell you anything. All the DRL's do is create light up front when there wouldn't be any otherwise. They don't affect the dash or interior like the other lights.

I have a question on this subject. The amber lights (DRL's) in bumper.....(turn signals on 04 4Runner)....they are on during the day when headlights are off.

At night, when headlights come on automatically, should these DRL's stay on or turn off?

I just bought a 2005 as a second vehicle and I'm having this exact same issues you're having any resolution on your end? I realize you posted this years ago.
