Will iPOD work by plugging into AUX

I just wanted to let you all know that, Yes, my iPod works great through the AUX jack while running on battery. However, I bought one of those cig lighter power supplies for the iPod and there is major interference, crackles and even a little feedback noise. I quickly unplugged it.

So, I obviously won't be using that power supply while listening to my iPod in the 4Runner, I'll only use it to charge when driving.

However, I'm wondering if that surge or interference is damaging the iPod in any way even when only charging.

Anyone have any idea?

It's due to the Ground Loop caused by the source (ipod) & amplifier grounded at different ground point.
You could buy a ground loop isolator from radioshack for about $15 or do some wrining work to use the same grounding point.

Someone post a photo of your AUX jack?

Its just a mini jack plug that fits flush inside of the center console.. Nothing much to look at really.

This is the aux jack part from 2006 Sienna (86190-AE010) for $20 but the aux jack for 2006 4runner (86190-53010) cost $70.

Does anyone know if 4runner aux jack is any different?

Got the male to male cable and it rocks for my ipod - i also bought the monster ipod charger and it also has a aux hole to put in the cable so you can charge and listen to it at the same time. IT STINKS!! Too much feedback. I just use the cable and charge it later. Thanks for all your help people!!

i just bought an 06 a couple of weeks ago with JBL 6 disk in-dash cd player. i asked the dealer when i bought it if i would be able to control the ipod through my sterio instead of trying to mess with the little ipod wheel while i am driving. i cant get it to work. any suggestions or did i just get lied to?

I havent been able to do that with it, but I dont have the same system as you. Maybe there is a way, but i dont have a clue how. Maybe someone else here knows how to!! Good luck!

you can also plug in your ipaq

If you have an ipaq, you can plug it into this port.
great for downloading audiobooks, mp3's, even watching movies, and listening to the movie over the jbl synthesis system.

also, if you have a portable dvd player, it could be played over the jbl system

As lots of folks have mentioned, the ipod works great when plugged in the aux input. The sound isn't as clear as when listening to a CD nor as clean as when listening to a MP3 Cd, but it is still very good. You might have to adjust the equalization on the ipod to a preset that you prefer as well as adjust the bass, mids and treble on the 4Runner audio system. The only negative is that you can't control the ipod directly from the car audio controls unless you have some type of interface.

If you have the 115v ac plug in your accessory console you can use the apple ipod AC adapter with the usb cable. I charged my ipod with the AC adapter in the car while listening to it and there was no difference in the sound quality.

I just got back from a 2200 mile round trip and had my entire mp3 collection (40 gb) and my audio books (5 gb) on the ipod. The audio books were a godsend!

I have an '06 with JBL. If the dealer told you that you could control the Ipod through the stereo they were dead wrong. The only thing the AUX jack brings in on the 4runner from the Ipod is the audio signal. To control the Ipod you will have to purchase and install an Ipod interface which makes your Ipod look like a CD changer to the stereo. Do a search for ICE and other Ipod interfaces. You will have to dismantle your dash to install it behind the head unit, but you will be able to scroll through the songs from the steering wheel controls (and headunit) and see the song titles and info.

If you wanted to control your ipod completely from the head unit you would need a complete jack or dock to plug the ipod into. since the 4runner only has an aux jack you can only listen to the sound coming out. Just a little extra work but not bad,, Leave it on shuffle

Do you guys get stero sound using the AUX input?

I tried connecting my iPod to the AUX input using mini jack cable and the sound are mono coming out only on the driver side speaker.
