Will you keep your 4runner if gas hits $8 a gallon?

i see its creeping to the $5 a gal mark here in the mid atlantic...my my my.

it was that way back during the first gulf war days too...but back then i had a 4-banger fuel sipper.

i aint giving up my 4Runner, but i AM parking it and looking forward to the weather turning, and i can pull out my Kawi Concours...at 45mpg, that will surely be a cheaper commuter than the Toyo for the next 7 months.

Will I keep my ‘18 4Runner if/when the price of gas goes up? Yes. It’s paid for. I don’t see the value in going into debt on a gas saving vehicle to save money at the pump.

Yeah, the US govt has an effect on the US economy. But due to the global pandemic the whole world’s economy has been disrupted in a recession with high inflation and high oil prices. Maybe next time everyone will roll up their sleeves earlier.

The scamdemic?, you are funny in a sad sort of way.

Political talk is not going to happen in here. You guys can talk about gas prices and such all you want but cut the political talk or you can enjoy your vacation from the site

I've said it before, energy and transportation will always be tied to politics. Always has, always will.

When railroads were first cut across the country, the political lobbying to get the tracks laid near one town or another resulted in millions of dollars profited by a select few. Nothing has changed in 150 years. Its just a global struggle now.

Too many ways to manipulate and make money in both of these sectors.

Any fuel cost thread will ultimately turn to politics, always has, always will.

If you think any of this has just randomly happened, without serious political games, your just plain naive.

If it gets to $8 (outside of California) we are in bigger problems than deciding if we'd drive our 4Runners. At that price there would be large scale layoffs. There would likely be a depression like the "Great One" back before WWII.

Currently, I’m driving my 4Runner less in day to day driving. In addition to the 4Runner, I have a ‘12 4-cylinder Subaru Outback, which gets considerably better mileage.

But the good news is that with rising gas prices, some of the gas guzzlers selling prices may come down?? Great time to buy a boat?

No way will Biden cross the Squad, and Pete certainly will do nothing……$5 will seem like a bargain this summer……Remember in November….

Next to my 1997 4Runner is a Tesla that plugs into Solar panels. The house is net positive. I can't wait for the day I can convert the 4Runner over. Oil is dead. Every subsidy should be put into battery and solar tech.

Oil is long from dead. Its in everything, plastics, clothes, cosmetics, GAS.

There are about 300,000,000 registered vehicles in the US. There are about 18,000,000 new car sales a year. If every new sale was electric and needed no gas it would take over 15 years to swap out the existing cars. Then you have Commercial Trucks, planes, trains, boats and ships.

Its decades out before electric vehicles take over, if ever. More power plants are needed. In the along run the cost of electric would increase (whatever the household cost of electric and gas are separate today is what you will pay as electric only in the future - there will be no "savings")

They tried to get rid of cigarettes with high taxes, suing manufacturers, etc. Yet they are still being sold at the 7-11 today.

Don't get caught up in the electric vehicle hype. If you look at the real world application its a long way off.

Good luck with that…….

To the thread question, yes. Fuel prices will eventually go back down once (remainder of sentence omitted in keeping with "no politics" rule for this thread).

Curious to know if you have a take on the eventual cost of replacing an electric vehicle battery? This is a significant expense not covered by warranty and in one instance, the $22K cost motivated one Tesla owner to take some extreme measures. Disposal of all these batteries will be another challenge, and of course the power produced to charge vehicles has to come from somewhere, so net effects are a bit of a shell game. My point being that electric vehicles aren't the magic bullet that some would have you believe.

YES...

I am not sure of her motivations but my GF works from home and has "offered" for me to use her Civic and she would take my 4r. My drive to work is 17 miles one way, and she only drives 3 miles a day back and forth to gym.

I think she just wants my 4r. should i trade?
