Yeah... was something like $108 to fill my V8 4th Gen with premium, could have sworn last time I filled up it was like 80-something...

Don't get me wrong, the tesla was hands down the best daily I have ever owned. In my eyes this isn't even a debate. The lack personality and it being the "California Camry" (I could never tell which one was mine in the parking lot) really got old.

There's 2 guy's on the other forum that's slamming all the others about not being a EV cheerleader, 1 has a 2007 4Runner.(Not knocking that either just an observation). I believe THAT produces way more emission's he's against than say a 2015< or maybe even a few years older model. :scared:I got kicked off over there because of my post to that subject that I criticized the current administration :hail:

Staying out of the anti-mask silliness but Premium hit $6 here. We don't drive too much but summer is an uptick for sure where we drive to our mountain home on weekends. Without a car payment, it is not horrible, but for errands, I'm still using the e-bike. That's the beauty of a city with a lot of bike paths. I have definitely leaned up and lost 7-8 lbs. I'm almost at ideal weight. This pain has an upside, in my case. I'll continue this at $8 or $3.
$$8 bucks? Try $10 dollars. There are strong rumors going around that gas stations are reconfiguring gas pumps (displays, etc.) to reflect double-digit per gallon gas prices.

I was thinking about going EV, and the direction of gas prices only encourages that. Problem is the Rivian isn't going to be around for a couple more years...

I will never sell my 4Runner. Fortunately for me my T4R isn’t my daily. I use my Scion for around town and I drive one of my work commuter vans otherwise I’d be putting 140 miles per day on my car. Gas in my area is around 5.07 gal

EVs just aren't there yet for the masses. Battery that lasts about half the number of years most people keep their cars and cost many thousands to replace, and no way currently to effectively recycle or dispose of the used batteries. Add to that being SOL when there's a prolonged power grid issue like that winter disaster in Texas or rolling blackouts in the summer when production can't keep up with demand, or maybe just being caught in an hours long traffic jam. What then? Plus, we know what off-roading does to MPG, what's the range going to be for an EV on the trails?
These issues will eventually be solved but I'll keep my combustion engine for now, thanks.

I am seeing more and more here in Colorado. I just saw one towing an off-road trailer. It was rigged for camping but I could not get close enough to look for more details like solar. My buddy saw (I assume) the same one yesterday and can't stop texting me about it, so his bank account is done for. I have seen 5 of them and given how little we drive, that may be a good sign for EVs. Teslas- those we see every day multiple times. I think we have a couple dozen just in our neighborhood.

I guess I don't see the logic in paying for a new vehicle to save money on gas?
For example, my 4th gen is paid off and gets something like... 13-ish average these days for my driving (I'm just going to go with that number for sake of simplicity)
At 13mi/gal I am looking at roughly 273mi/21gal tank at $8/gal = $168 per fill-up. I probably fill up my 4Runner twice in a month on average? so we'll say $336/mo ($4032/yr) in fuel costs.
That's still lower than the cost of fuel plus a car payment on a newer vehicle. Building a '22 Rav4 Hybrid (because for whatever reason Toyota won't make the Corolla hatchback in AWD and I can't get a GR Corolla) in Limited comes to about $39,290, with a $2k down payment at 7.44%APR (good lord) on a 72mo finance is... $644/mo ($7728/yr) + $116/mo (1392/yr) in fuel (14.5gal tank * $8, given the we'll say 38mpg I would probably get, I'd only fill up once a month with my driving habits).
Let's say you got a used car, most used vehicles are not going to get significantly better mileage to offset the roughly 15-20k minimum you will spend on a passable used car that gets better gas mileage at this point. Lets assume you somehow managed to find a junker for $5k that gets 22mpg; that vehicle will still probably need another $2-5k in bare minimum work to make it safe and reliable enough to be worth driving. So let's call it $7k with a 15gal tank, that's about $240/mo ($2880/yr) in fuel costs because even at 22mpg I'll fill it up twice a month. So even in this more ideal case, I'm spending an up front cost of $7 for the first year, plus god know how much in constant repairs and being unsatisfied with the jalopy I'm stuck in... to save $1152/yr in gas for the 4Runner. That's before you factor in insurance, registration, and other fees on a second vehicle.
I don't know... maybe I am wrong in my math here... I just don't really see the benefit in getting a second vehicle because of gas prices. I guess in this crazy market I could sell the 4Runner for more than it's worth and get a newer vehicle... but then I'm sacrificing what I enjoy for something I will hopefully learn to like?
