Nice ride. I spent a few days out of Edinburgh with a VStrom. Had a GS out of Glasgow on a "demo" ride that lasted most of the day. I alwasy wanted to make it to the museum in Birmingham, but never made it there. Some great riding, and you know all to well about gas prices. What are they now?

You're right, I did the "traditional" John O Groats to Lands End trip many years ago and Scotland is full of excellent riding/driving roads.
Oil has rolled over to below $100 WTI so I think you guys should see lower fuel prices soon. Over here it's mostly all tax anyway, so I doubt it will fall. Probably just hover.
I paid £2.03 per litre for Super Unleaded yesterday. So about $9.18 a US Gal, I think.
Sold the Duramax and the Cummins...beautiful trucks and I miss them. I think I miss the GMC more. We are definitely going EV when our driving picks up but I really want a diesel Class C or at the least a camping van. That will hurt on trips with gas/diesel at $5-$6 or more but the war will end and it will push prices down. I do agree that gas below $4 may not last long when it does happen.
I have started to see more and more Rivians now here in Denver. I also see more people asking for solar and inverters in my neighborhood (we get a LOT of sun) so the shift is accelerating. It is doubtful I'll sell the 4R since it just runs and runs without a complaint. It is time to change the "shocks" under the hood and hatch, after 17 years!

I use my 36-40 mpg daily driver for my 250/week driving to from work, if gas hits 8 per gallon weekly drive will cost me $56 per week as opposed to my 4R 14-19mpg will cost me over $100 per week, lucky to have a second vehicle that is good on gas, so the answer is: I am keeping it! :flame:

The “shift” is from people buying exciting cars esp in a tight car market. The question is…what will the average Joe buy? Rivians, Tesla, Porsche, etc all sell electrics at $60k and above. I think that this high-end market will be saturated as the upper class buys all the electric. Instead of buying Ferraris, Porsche, etc, they now buy the electric equivalent in that price range.
But how about the middle class and lower that make up most of the car market? The Camry drivers. There is nothing worthwhile in electric at that price range.

Damn, the hood supports failed after only 17 years, that's unheard of, I think it's time to get rid of that T4R, next thing you know you'll have to replace the spark plugs or the air filter, it will be a never ending pit for your money to fall into!!!
So if I understand correctly, you think the conflict in the Ukraine is the cause for high gas prices? Is this correct? If so, please elaborate.

I was up in the White mountains this past week with the girlfriend, we were just going to do some sightseeing and hiking, so we took her car. Hyundai Elantra, we averaged 42 MPG for the trip.
Not going to lie, I was really impressed with that economy, and range. On the way back, I was trying to figure out if the numbers made sense for RAV4 hybrid.
My 4Rpaid off, I figure the 4Runner and 15K on top of that would get me a RAV4 hybrid. It would take me 6 years at today's prices to break even on that deal. Not sure if it's worth it. I may test one though, I have to imagine the RAV is probably a lot nicer to drive than the 4R.
