Win 7 pro fail to d/l MS updates ??

If I had a windows 7 Disc, I would not be here with questions, just a faster SSD. quick lunch and I'll be back to read this thread.

well, that MS Update Catalog will not open for me. Says I am on IE 5 or something, but it is 11 or 12 for Win 7 Pro. I can't update to a newer browser. running a Update Diagnostic right now. It is not the 'standalone updater', something else, Now it is looking for updates. no luck.

I finally set it up for auto-update and left it on over night, just Essentials grabbed an update, the rest failed. Will try it again tonight.

if you havent already renamed the software distribution folder, use method 10

Silly thing, But check your clock settings in BIOS and in windows and your time zones, I had a few terminals over the years that something got altered and then microsoft thought it was a hacked copy and blocked updates.

It's been a month now. Use an external HDD to backup your files.

Reformat C and do a clean install.

All data will be erased but you have the backup on the external.

The PC will be fixed in just a few hours.

If this was shipped with an install disc, I would have by now. Thought all Lenovo's had the recovery partition. T-61 are 64 byte and dual core, but were the Vista and Xp series. Since it is 64 byte, most update to win 7 or win 10.
Microsoft will not d/l a copy, says the key is a manufacturers key. I may just buy a Win 7 64 disc and start again. thanks all

Still a problem, glad it is not a primary PC for me.
this Win 7 does not recognize wuaserv, I think I have seen that in task manager using lots of Memory. The stand alone doesn't do much. thanks

My wife updated her laptop from Win 8->10, no problem. thought I would, it seemed to hang all night at 99% install. This morning, I rebooted and Win 7 did not fully load, black screen. I managed to get it going with the 'repair disc'.
Trying Win 10 again and seems to fail at 'updating' which is really the problem I have with Win 7. more later. How do you open a ISO disc?

well same day, I can't get back into windows that way. I ran the repair utilities, but it will not let me use any of the dates, restore. ?? yes, I know, I have a real problem in there. so this is the end of this thread, working on replacing this aging desktop. thank all.

After almost 6 months, without updates, I have this laptop up and running now. I have run the 'stand alone installer' many times for 10-12 hours. This last time I ran it, right clicked the icon and saw 5 updates pinned and waiting. Knowing it would run 10+ hours, I rebooted and hit the icon again, it brought up a 'download and install window' with just one update, download and reboot. Now Windows Update saw 60 updates waiting for me. back in business.
(I was almost ready to get a retail copy of win 7 and a SSD, now that is not really an option now)

If you think your machine is infected, there is no way to really remove all of the software. Start from a fresh format.
