Winch in a Bag - Thoughts?

Winch in a bag, not to be confused with Wench in a bag, thoughts on this?

Superwinch, LLC - Winch-In-A-Bag Plus – 2,500 lbs/12V

It is rated at 2,500lbs, and I know the 4R weights a lot more, but what about doubling back with a pulley? I would never get the use out of a permanent winch, but wondered if this would even be worth while for the 4R if ever 'lightly' stuck.

I was looking for something like that too, but I would be afraid that either motor will burn or rope will break. 4runner is over 5000lbs after all and if you are really stuck you might need all winch power. If you lighly stuck you might get out with somethign like this:

They say you should buy a winch that is rated at 1 1/2 times the weight of the vehicle. So a 8k or 9k is right for our 4runner.

With that being said, if you double the rope, like stated above, you double capacity basically so you would have 5k. If you were not buried up to the axles in mud I would think you might be alright.

I went with an Engo that is actually built by the ex CFO or COO or CEO of Superwinch I think. It got great reviews on the winch shootout that Four Wheeler did.

That's a good idea, but Holy Hell! Nothing like the full throttle scream of a chainsaw to make one go deaf (Or cause the ears of Wet Coast Hippies to perk up for miles around!)

meh, i've ran chainsaws at spanish banks to the horror of passers by LOL.


theres a cut area on spanish banks near the first parking lot down the hill from ubc and i used to go there and pick up firewood once in a while. was damn hilarious.


but yah, you should probably get ear protection if you plan to use the lewis winch lol.

I've seen Smittybilt winches for not much more than that. I think if you're going to spend $300, might as well spend $500 and do it right. That winch in a bag would probably be great for ATVs or snowmobiles, which is who they're appearing to market it to.

Thanks for pointing this out. Reading that article really put it into perspective and shows a bit of favoritism for their "sponsors". Amazing how Engo only made 4th place, when it clearly deserved a much higher ranking. It didn't grenade itself during the various tests unlike some of the top 3... I'm sorry, but it's Engo for me. =) Great price and reliable!

I totally agree. The Engo beat and/or tied all the big boys in the performance tests that mattered. It received lower grades for controller, packaging and instructions? IMO those are not the most important factors and certainly not worth a couple hundred dollars more. As far as performance it rocked the tests and like I stated above, I have had mine for about 6 months, have used it multiple times and it still works great!!!
