Winch with Stock Bumper!

Well I think there are many out there that have been looking for this, or how to do this for a long time now.

I started out with a X20 Smittybilt 8k winch,

Got a winch mounting plate at harbor freight for $33. (had a coupon)

Then bought some nuts and bolts from Lowes to mount the plate.

There were some minor modification to the winch plate as well as the front frame rails but all in all it fit well and seems to be really sturdy and solid.

Here are some pics, let me know what you think.

The bumper looks crooked but its really my grill that is crooked, because the tab that mounts the passenger side light is broken, hope to remedy that soon.

Thanks guys! Still not quite done. Still want to change the fair lead and mount some lights down there to take away from how far it sticks out.

We're heading down to Monroe with one of Johns buddies. Welcome to join if you can. I'll get you the details when we've got them.

It looks good but in T4R.org fashion, you need to test it.

Hook it up and start pulling. Make a VDO of coarse.

winch

Have you got any plans step by step on how you put it all together? I got a 01 T4r that has that front bumper that stick out quiet a ways that I think i can fit my winch in. I have the same winch that that you have, I picked it up a while ago. yours looks real slick, it doesn't stick out to far out front. What was that plate that you picked up at HF?Would a pcs of angle iron work? Here 's what my front end looks like, see attached picture. It's not my trucck, just wanted to show the front bumper.
thanks

That is awesome! I wanted to do the same thing and get one of those JDM Surf push bars from the 96-98 trucks to cover the winch:

I dont have any step by step plans, but I can add them to the top of this thread if you want, you are welcome to ask me any questions about what I did and how. Here is a link to the winch plate that I used, I did do some modifying of the plate itself too. I will add that to the top of the thread. Universal Channel Winch Mount

what happened to you building a bumper?
Still plan on building a bumper down the road, just wanted to do this cause i hadn't seen it done here and actually talked about. I do see that snowjunky did it, wish i would have talked with him before i did mine,

Looks great! Maybe a small write up? I would love to do that to mine! Or swing by and get you to do it?? :p
That would work for me, took me about 4 hours all by myself to do and less than $50 in supplies including the winch plate.

How's the strength up and down mostly? Seems like the only support for the rollers is the thin winch plate.

The winch plate is actually pretty thick, thicker than 3/16'' steel. If you look at most other winch plates on Jeeps and such it is the same thickness. They hold up well so I think this should to. If anything were to break I think the fairlead would be the first to go, that is why I plan on putting a low profile one on and keeping this on for a spare.

Stock bumper and winch

That looks awesome! Can we see a full frontal photo?...Of the 4runner, of course. I have a front bumper with a "wrinkle" in it and have thought about a hybrid plate/ stock bumper for a winch, but yours looks almost factory.

Nice job.

Here's a couple more pics. Also where the black part of the valance is left is where I want some 6" lights to go.

This thing is sick man. Looks real good and I can't wait to see it with those lights. Unfortunately ill never need it because of my ARB but if I still had the stock bumper I would go this route.

Can u reach your neutral lever? We're did u put your control box? It looks good with it close to the bumper. Mine has a gap because of my bl
