So after driving around for the past month in my new to me 97 T4R, I had to do something about the window rattles. My windows would rattle anytime they were partially down. They were okay when all the way up or down but anywhere in between was no good. After searching and not finding much of a solution, I decided to try my own fix. I first removed the door panel in search of loose bolts somewhere on the regulator or frame. No luck. Everything was tight. After some playing around, i realized if I kept some pressure on the window as I closed it, it would not rattle nearly as badly. I then had this lightning bolt of an idea.....
I thought that if I put this on the rubber gasket that the window already rides in, it may keep enough pressure on the window to prevent it from rattling.
After some playing and trimming, this is what I ended up with
Like I said, I had to trim the foam weather stripping down a bit. Both in thickness and in width to get it to fit right. You may also notice that I did not take the stripping all the way to the top of the window seal. At first I put the stripping the entire length of the window seal but the motor was working too hard to close the window the last few inches. After seeing that, I trimmed roughly 4 inches off the top and that fixed the problem. The windows now open and close smoothly with no noticeable extra strain on the motor. If the motor seems to be struggling, trim the stripping to be a little thinner. Or find a better sized weather stripping.
This seems to have eliminated nearly all of the rattle that was previously present in my front windows. Try it out, let me know what you think.
