Window replacement

So some jackass shattered my driver's side rear window over the cargo area. I went to a bodyshop to replace it and I got an estimate for $460 for parts and labor. Does that seem reasonable? Now I haven't replaced a window in awhile but that seems high to me cause i remember you can call a company to come to your house and they will replace a front windshield for $250. Again this was a while back but still. What'd ya guys thing? Also this is for a 98 limited with the factory tint and the quote was for a non OEM part.

from Honda that would be too much. I'm sure the price range is still the same...my Honda for the front was $150 with front glass installed.

the door windows, I do that myself..buy one off the junk yard. Its really not that hard. but that price imo. is too much.

I'm not even talking about the windshield. It is the side glass. It must be glas made of gold. But I could be wrong.

Thanks for the thought. I had to get it repaired quickly because this happened over the weekend and all the shops were closed, so I duct taped the open window with 4 mil plastic sheet, but wouldn't u know it another dumber jackass sliced it open 3 in the morning and slide right in and opened the doors and started going through all the compartments. I already emptied everything just in case. Then the delayed alarm went off and woke me up in time to see the moron running away. Times like this I wished for a nice shotgun or something. I went out and I saw no damage...walked around a bit and then went inside, about an hour later a cop shows up. Apparently the jackass came back and tired to jimmy the compartment of another vehicle a few spaces down.

So....that's why I needed to get it fixed quickly but I am going to talk to the shop owner to understand better the pricing. We'll see what he says.

So I talked to the shop about why it cost so much and he stated that the window is tinted (only adds $25) and that the window has some wire running through it. I'm picking up the truck in a couple of hours but does anyone know what this wire does? It can't be the antenna as it is up front. Can it be side window defrosting wires??

Anyone have ideas?

OK just went and looked at my 98 SR5, the wire is on the passenger side only not drivers and think it is the AM antenna. That is why there are two antenna plugs on factory head unit.

Correct, the rear passenger window has an antenna in it. The factory radio has diversity circuity to choose the best antenna for the signal. It uses the hood one or the rear window one, depending on which gives the best signal. FYI, I used a Y splitter to hook both up to my replacement radio. I did some tests and some stations had better reception with both, and some had worse. I think it is the difference between local and distance stations. Anyway, back to your window issue, the antenna is in the rear passenger windows, not the rear driver side window. I think you should get a quote from another glass shop to be sure.

To late. Needed the car. The window was 325 bones and it was not Toyo part. the Toyo would have cost another $75 and wold have had to wait to get it shipped from California. Oh well.
