Window Switch question - Right Rear...

Back in 2009 when I first got my 4runner, I had one or two instances where the Right (passenger side) rear window would intermittently not operate from the switch on the passenger's door. I was always able to operate the window from the driver's door armrest control, though. At the time I assumed it was the switch on the passenger door that was going out but since I don't normally carry passengers in the back seat (kids are all grown I didn't see it as a problem.

However, I do often take the dog and she, of course, likes to hang her head out the window, so I'm constantly raising and lowering that window from the driver's panel.

On my trip this weekend, after putting the window down, I was unable to raise it using the driver's switch. I tried repeatedly but it didn't work. Finally my wife was able to reach back and lift up the switch on the door and the window went up, but even here there were intermittent failures.

The window kept intermittently failing to raise and lower with both the driver's door switch and the passenger door switch. Finally we got the window up and just decided to leave it there.

If it was just one switch I'd suspect the switch, but with both, does that sound like a motor going out? I'm just wondering whether others have had similar problems and if there's a common failure point I should be looking at.

For reference, this is on a 1999 SR5, 4x4, 3.4, Auto with 140,000 miles.

Mine was doing the same thing with both rear windows. I replaced the switches in the rear doors and all is well. I believe the switches go bad and cause the drivers controls to not work either.

How easy/difficult was it to replace the switch? I'd like to try that route first as it promises to be the simplest.

It worked for me on right rear passenger side

They pop out fairly easily. The front has the clip and the rear slides in with a tab...
Pry gently at the front of the switch and it should come right out. Then disconnect the switch wiring. Installation is just as easy.
