Windshield defect?

While my runner is sitting in direct sunlight the sunlight creates a "glitter effect" on the windshield, it's hard to describe. This "glitter effect" is not seen when not in direct sunlight. Has anyone else noticed anything like that?

From inside or outside of the 4R? Not sure exactly what you mean by 'glitter', but my 1st shot would be it is 'sandblasted' from winter driving. Since you are an 11' I would be surprised, unless you like to follow rock and sand trucks!

It's always had it, but now that i've taken a few road trips it has begun to bug me. It appears to be within the windshield, the exterior and interior of the windshield are smooth and free of any defect.

Have you been in a situation with a lot of small rocks, grit and/or sand?

Here in CO, we get that on windshields all the time. It's micro-chips on the outside of the windshield caused by the sand and gravel they use on the roads in winter. They are small enough you can't even feel them but when the sun is shining on them there is a sparkle or glitter effect.

Longshot: When I wear my polarized sunglasses, the tint on my car (any car) looks...weird. You don't happen to be wearing polarized glasses do you?

The thing is that it's not uniform across the windshield, it's a spot here and there. Which leads me to believe it has something to do with the way it was made. I've never been in an area were I was exposed to sand that would do this to the windshield. I guess I'll just take it in on my next maintenance and see what the dealer says.

Sounds like it got peppered or sprayed. Driving down the road and some schuck hauling acetone etc. would cause it.
A good peppering of sand from a dumptruck on the highway etc.
Check your Auto Insurance deductible cracks, breakage and unsafe condition is a non-chargeable Comp loss. You lose your OEM windshield but if it's FUBAR not much good anyway.

Me too - and you're "glitter effect" description is spot on.... like a zillion teeny-tiny stars.

Go to the nearest quarry and follow the gravel trucks around on deliveries for awhile.
