Windshield Repair Question

Someone decided to celebrate the 4th of July by giving me a star shaped crack in my 5th gen. Do the repairs provided by the windshield repair shops last? I know that the kits sold at Walmart will eventually give way and the cracks will spread (first hand experience on other vehicles). Is a repair shop (Novus and the such) the best way to go?

I've had numerous chips on my windshield repaired and they have all held up. However they were chips without any significant cracks. If you have a chip with a crack already running from it then your mileage may vary.

Insurance?

I've got Liberty Mutual and took mine to Safelite and it was repaired for free!

Got a chip repaired on my 97 4Runner 10+ years ago and it still fine.

The repairs generally hold. Some companies will credit the cost of a chip repair towards a new windshield if it does crack. I've had many done all have held.

I have had a few done on mine. Over the years I have began to do them myself as a company a few years ago did one, then charged my insurance for three other replacements that were not done over the next two years. I found out when my insurance rate went up and I inquired as to why.
