Winter Wheelin'

Depending on where you go, unless you know the trail very well it is difficult to know what lies underneat the snow. ie: rocks. There are certain trails I wheel in summer, but I wouldn't do it in the winter because of just that. It looks perfectly smooth on top, but horribly jagged underneath.

Others I know are basically rough roads through the forest with no snow removal service, so I feel comfortable that I won't come head to head with a hidden rock higher than my front bumper.

I would join up at RM4x4.org and definitely not go by yourself...

Get a cb, go up with us and you will be way better off. Snowbashing and 4wheeling in general should never be done alone, especially in Colorado.

We dont even usually go unless there are 3 capable rigs... Even the easiest trail like yankee hill can be unpredicatable, I slid a couple hundred feet down a hill and almost off the trail last year.

I know you mention going with your buddies... do they have much experience 4wheeling? or snowbashing?

Yeah, you need to have a Cb and recovery points so we can pull you out if you get stuck.. thats it.

you are not going to promote local forums? Traildamage is a local Colorado wheeling forum and website.

Im sorry you think its in bad taste to promote local forums, but the fact is its not competing with T4R for anything. Its not for profit, its just so we can meet up with other people...

The sad fact is, people are using the General Discussion and 3rd and 4th and 5th gen forums to plan stuff and still people dont see the meets...

Much easier to plan events when you aren't conflicting with 50 other cities/states/groups. Fact is no one here reads the local/group pages, hence the need for local forums. Socal has one, East coast has one, etc.

I will respectfully have to disagree that wheeling alone in Colorado is safe. Would you Snowboard backcountry all alone? The fact is that trails change every couple months here depending on the weather.. Even a trail you have driven 10 times will change in a few months and you can quickly get yourself in a situation you cant get out of without knowing it. Knowing your rig and knowing your abilities wont guarantee you from ending up in some predicaments you cant get out of alone.

When those times come its nice to have someone to pull you out, or a CB to call for help. Hence the only rules on RM4x4... for everyones safety.

and yes, you are right, even with a group, always let people know where you are going.
