My wife and I are moving to New England this fall. My runner has spent it's entire life in Florida and this will be the first winter in a very cold climate. I have a solid front axle swap from an 80 series land cruiser and front and rear lockers.
Any tips on what I need to do to prepare for the change? I'm planning on installing a battery blanket. Beyond that, I'm not sure what needs to be done.
Thanks much...
whats the cold temps will you have?
somethings with me where in the winters we get down to -25, (-35 windchill) :spy:
somethings i do are block off part of the radiator with cardboard.
Change everything over to synthetic fluids. i ran one year with out them then switched and could immediately feel a difference, the vehicle had a hard time moving in the morning, i had to do a forward reverse a few times just to get the fluid moving before i could turn and actually move out of my parking spot.
One symptom you might have is a stiff brake pedal in the morning when you first start the car. that just means there is moisture in the check valve for your brake booster. ( Engine --- hose ---- check valve--- brake booster) the check valve has frozen stuck and can be very scary when you put it in drive and it wont stop unless you
stand on the brakes! to fix i took the check valve out, warmed it up, opened it and sprayed some wd40 inside. works perfect every time now.
i would say those things are a necisity.
some creature comforts would be:
Block heater (plug in the truck every night to keep the coolant warm)
remote start (remember to turn the heat on when you leave the truck so its on when you remote start it)
seat heaters
