Wiper Blades

My drivers side wiper blade is worn and now basically just smears the windshield. I know I can buy refills pretty cheap but I am thinking of replacing with something different like Bosch, Rain-X, etc.

Can anyone share experiences with aftermarket wiper blades and what they recommend? I want to keep them on year round and I being in New England I will have ice, snow, etc.

I just bought my 4R a couple months ago and I didn't even need to switch my wipers out but I did. I always buy Rain-X wipers and LOVE them!! I'm in portland right now and with the constant rain so far I haven't anything but a clear swipe from these blades.

The hingeless ones for rain-x, bosch, michelin, goodyear, etc. seem to all be made by the same manufacturer, just branded for the different folks. The cheapest I've found has been $8 (or so) at the local CostCo for 18/20/22 sizes.

In rain, they work pretty well. When it gets into heavy snow, there is a little miss at the very tippy top of about 1/2".

Otherwise, very good wipers and I bought a spare pair.
 
I just put on the Bosch Icons and I am impressed and they did really well during the last couple of snows we've had.
 
BOGO rain X wipers at pepboys

I bought the latitudes for my 06 and they are great so far. you can get BOGO free at pep boys...its a mail in rebate.

I double check & yes...I got the correct size.

I lined them up to the original ones & they are the exact size.

22" - Driver
20" - Passager

I returned the Bosch Icons.

Yes, I had the same experience. I wish I had seen this thread sooner. The Icon's don't wipe the entire height of the drivers side windshield. Total garbage.
 
To those of you with the ICONS, when the driver side blade makes a wipe all the way to the side of the windshield, does it seem to pull all that water back across the windshield? Mine has been doing this ever since I installed the ICONS. Its driving me nuts!!!

Bought the neoforms since they looked like the Bosch but cheaper and a couple people said they worked. They work good, but I think there is about a .75-1 inch spot on the top that doesn't wipe good. For me that is up in the tinted section so I don't notice but I am going to go with the OEM next time as they are cheap and work without all the hype.

I really like my PIAA silicon wipers. Worth the $ as it treats your windshield as if you just freshly put Rain-Ex on there. Matter of a fact, sometimes I only activate the wipers in a hard pour or if I'm getting dirty water kicked back at me as mostly the water beads and runs right off.
 
It isn't just about the wiper blades!

I bought my 4runner used about five months ago. It had Rain-X blades on it and they jumped all over the place. I replaced them with OEM Toyota blades and still had some issues.

After cleaning the windshield several times with rubbing alcohol the OEM blades have kept it nice and clear ever since.

The biggest tricks are to keep the windshield clean of oils and road grime and to change the blades regularly!

BTW ... the stealership's price difference between refills (just the rubber strips) and the full blade was a just a matter of pennies!
 
I just bout the Bosch Icons 2-3 days ago and good thing because it has been raining. Nothing special about them no ups or downs. They wipe perfectly and the install took me 30 seconds each extremely easy and compact. I really like how they look to. I'm concerned more about durability with them because they wipe pretty much the same as rain x ones I've used on other cars. So we'll see how that goes I hope they last a while because 43 bucks for wipers isn't too nice.

I actually was having some visibility problems with mine today. That might be it, but I think it's an oil windshield I'll check it out though.
