Ok, how do I stop the wiper motor from spinning while I'm trying to tighten down the nut!? I noticed there is a hole in the motor housing and was wondering if it was for a locking rod or for oil. hopefully when I do get it locked down it will be in the correct position so the linkage operates properly. Anyone with some experience on this one would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

When in doubt, RTFM:

No info on the spinning other than the torque. But clearly no concern about the position. Tighten wherever. Then just run it to the stop position, and THEN install the wiper arms.

I'm pretty sure that's a worm drive, so I really doubt it will rotate much at all while tightening the nut.

Don't overthink this.

I figured it would be as easy as that and it has not been. The brass colored cam that attaches the motor to the linkage apparently needs to be in a particular position at the start. I thought I could just watch the start and stop positions and tighten...no such luck. I did a rear diff cover, starter and new radiator this week and THIS has been the worst. If anyone can tell me the starting position of the cam that would be great. I got a malicious website block from firefox on the link for some reason.

I don't understand. Why didn't the FSM approach work? What happened? If the wipers stop in the wrong place, take them off and reattach them.

FSM? I'm sorry but your link wouldn't open in my browser so I'm not sure what that stands for. The Cam must be slipping at the motor post. I put a lock nut on it and cranked down pretty hard. I originally paid a buddy to do it since he said he has done it before. Well, he stripped the motor post threads out and never finished the job. I took out my tap and drill kit and twisted some new threads on to it that LOOKED good to me. As tight as I had it on there I have a hard time believing it's slipping. Does that post spin 360 degrees or just toggle back and forth? I didn't power it up until it was back in the truck.

FSM is Factory Service Manual.

I don't know about your other question. You still haven't said what is going wrong.
