Wiper swtich bad?

So my wipers worked fine on Saturday. Got in the rig this morning and I smell a sort of wet/burning smell, figred this might be my defrost and the 6" of wet snow we got over night. Wipers worked fine for the first part of my drive to the gym.

Get out of the gym and all of a sudden my wipers no longer work unless I hold them between the 2nd and 3rd positions.

Any thoughts?

you have 2 options to fix it:

1. buy a new wiper switch ~$130

2. buy a new relay for under $10 shipped and fix yourself.

I just did mine about a week ago, works flawlessly.

PS. the only place i could find the relay for sale was digikey.com

Thanks it's what I found after later searching. Wish I could get the relay at the local auto parts store but doesn't appear possible...

I called around to a few electronics stores and most did not have it and a few wouldn't even deal directly to the general public. Your best bet is to order from Digikey. They shipped same day; I ordered on a Thursday and received it Saturday; i think they are out of Minnesota.

I'm thinking it's actually the motor. They have totally stopped working and it smells like something is burnt up

Try and pinpoint the smell, it would be obvious if the smell is coming from the switch, put your nose as close as you can to the switch and see if the smell is stronger, if not sniff around untill you get the smell pinpointed as close as you can, this will give you a starting point of where to start trouble shooting the issue.

Took it all apart this afternoon and it's the switch. It's not the relay however that burned up, some other connection, it's pretty ugly. Nobody has a new assembly in stock, but one of the local dealers said it could be in by tomorrow...
