Wired Inverter Mod

Best mod ever, All you need is the: inverter,
15' of 8 gauge wire
a couple of 1/4" connectors for the wire
a few zipties

I mounted it under the passenger seat and ran the wire trough the back of the engine compartment (connected it to the battery) and through the passenger footwell under the carpet/door sills, and ground the negative to the nearest bolt.
Now i have a regular wall outlet in the car, and a freed up DC outlet

I just happened to have the inverter laying around which was a 450watt husky, and the rest costed $10 for the wire and connectors, and i also covered the wire with wire loom which was $3.00, and all of this stuff required for this mod can be purchased at lowes or Home Depot.
P.S. this works without the key in the ignition

Im trying to make time to do the same thing this week. Thinking of mounting it in the lower pocket of my 97 center console (cut out the back a bit)

If I ever get around to it, I'll get a much larger wattage inverter and hard wire it to the battery, but for now, this little one gets the majority of stuff done. (i.e. charging my cordless drill batteries, camera batteries and doing soldering.)

You don't mention it but hopefully you have a fuse in the power line. You don't want the rig to accidentily burn.

lol. I was thinking more like being able to run a frige, air tools, tv and much more.

Here's a 2300wt inverter for only $239...even comes w/ a wireless remote control: http://www.invertersrus.com/powerbrightpw2300-12.html They've come down a good deal in price. You can even get a 5000wt inverter for less than $500 (I remember when those suckers were a $1000 way back when...plus they were the size of a small house.)

I actually had this laying around in my garage because my dad broke the cord, (so i didnt pick the voltage) and with the cord broken and no easy way to get a replacement so i figured i might as well hardwire it to the car as opposed to just leaving on the shelf.

THats sick though running a fridge and tv in the car

You don't mention it but hopefully you have a fuse in the power line. You don't want the rig to accidentily burn.

not yet, the inverter has its own fuse.

wired to a second battery, i run my stereo, aux lighting and inverter off of it,
charges laptop for games( search for nes emulator) and movies ect, coffee in the morning with one of these

and pretty much anything i need to run, btw this is all in my vw bus, that said though i fully plan on doing the same thing to the runner, going with dual batts and an inverter is the best!!! i'm just trying to figure out how and where to store all of this and the cleanest possible way of running everything, the total set up was around $200

inverter-150-180
solenoid- $12 at interstate battery
second batt-reconditioned from interstate $20
wiring was free.

with the soleniod it charges both batteries while the engine is running/key on
and only drwas from teh 2nd battery when the alternator isn't running.
the added bonus to this is if your starting battery ever dies when you key on the 2nd battery will jump the starter battery with no help, never have a dead battery again, i have camped for 1.5 weeks with out starting my engine to charge anything while running my stereo and other things the whole tiem through out, when it was time to go started right up.....:reddance::lookout:
