wiring a sub into the factory system

*NEED HELP* wiring a sub into the factory system

So just bought an 03 4runner with the JBL system, and im trying to add my JL W3v2 Sub and JL J2 500.1 Amp. I used a line output converter but i cant get a strong enough signal for the sub. Ive tried tapping into the rear door speakers, the very back speakers and the sub. They all have a very weak signal that barely moves the W3.
Ive searched and cant find a wright up on where people have tapped into to get a good signal. any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

You shouldn't have any issues hooking in there. Check link in my sig, it goes to my sub/amp writeup. Will be a lot of extra info, but should give you an idea of what I did and it works great. BTW, welcome to the forums.

i have it connected right before the sub now and i have a weak signal... I must have something backwards... This is frustrating, it was so straight forward in my Infiniti... ill take a look at it again tomorow

Sounds to me like either a wire's crossed or the LOC isn't working right. I did an install in a buddy's Lexus that was a nightmare. I still have no idea how the previous owner had the speakers and such wired, I never was able to get a good signal by tapping in at the rear speakers. I know the wires weren't what they should have been, and I was able to get a lot better sound by switching them around.

What are you using for taps? Does your amp have speaker level inputs?

LOC's can be terribly frustrating

I'm ready to gut my 10speaker jbl system to get a better signal

Try a different LOC, when I first hooked mine up I had the same problem.

I finally tried another LOC, and it worked great.

Stupid question, but did you adjust the line level converter up? Those little knobs at the bottom? Maybe thats why you have low output. I put mine about half way up.

yes it does see the diagram where the arrow is pointing to level adjustments

remem to lower your volume before adjusting

I read somewhere on line that if you have amplified speakers (i assume you do since its the jbl system) you need to have the line level converter at the head unit prior to the amplified signal. Thats where i have mine. If its still low, then i would say its time for a dfferent one.

Yea hooking in before the amp may be required, although I remember reading where it wasnt suppose to matter. If your amp has speaker level inputs you need to use those instead of the loc. I'm not too familiar with the loc, but my guess its its not doing its job or the issue is where/how you tapped into the speaker wires. I know this seems just like when I had a pair of wires crossed.
