Wiring Angel Eyes / Halo Lights

So I have some Morimoto xbALed Angel Eyes on order from The Retrofit Source, I took advantage of their 4th of July sale.

They offer a corner/marker light harness. but since our 4Runners use the DRL's as turn signals I don't think I can use this harness since it will make my Angel Eyes blink like a turn signal which isn't really what I'm going for.

that's correct right? is there a way to tap into the DRL and not have the angel eyes blink but only the amber bulb blinks.

any tips, advice or suggestions are welcome.

I'm thinking the best solution is to just wire them up to the ignition with a switch somewhere and then wither manually disable the DRL on the amber bulb or get Toyota to disable DRL with their scantool.

Just went to look and there is a white wire with a black stripe and a red wire going into the back of the bulb.

I always assumed there would be three. Try cutting each one and seeing what happens.
Not sure how the reverse polarity works with the turn signals too. Maybe be - that is switched. Try tracing the wires to a flasher relay too? then you could tap in before it

Yeah, I'll have to take a closer look once I have the headlights out, I might just keep it simple and wire them to the ignition then just disable the DRL function.

The DRL's are dual filament so they're tied to a relay, I would try and tap off either the headlight or foglight, or just run off the ignition like you mentioned in your original post

So I've heard a bunch of names for lights.

in the factory headlight housing, there is the low beam, high beam, and signal/DRL bulb in the upper corner, is there one more in there?

which lights are the "parking lights"? if tapping into the parking lights do the halos just turn on with the ignition?

There are markers, they are under the dtrl/signal . they are on when the headlights are on or if you just turn on the markers

headlight switch goes "off" "parking" "on" "auto"

The running light and signals are 2 different bulbs.
You can tap into the running light setup and pull the bulb out and it will work the same with out having the light on and can return it to factory later.

Did this so I only had running light on my SW bumper.

i think havinf fun said it all.....i ordered the blacked out halos projector drop in kit....i intend to wire the halos the way the poster above described..

remove the drl bulbs/cut off power going to them...and then feed the angel eyes with the cable/power from the drls.....should be a piece of cake...the real pita would be removing the headlights assy!!!

Reach through the fender liner for the tricky bolt, it makes it really easy.

how did you finally resolve this issue..my drop in kit has arrived, i now understand the issue you had then..the drls act as turning signals in my 05...so cutting off power to them isnt an option as i would be left without a turn signal!

I wired mine to the parking lights on my 03

I have them and I wired them into the little bulb that turns on when you put the headlight switch on its first setting. Its the bulb that is under the daytime running bulb.

the 2005 model is a lil different........when you start the car...only the drls which also serve as the turn signals come on............am wondering if i can splice the cable and power both drl/turn signals and the angel eyes together........anybody knows the fuse rating of the turn signal fuse..or the power draw of the the ngel eyes?

edit: noob question above!!...i think i understand the system fully......wiring the angel eyes to the parking lights/1st turn of the headlight on switch is the best option....only drawback is that youhave to manually turn on the parking lights/angel eyes anytime you start the car..or permanently leave the switch on

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I am looking into doing this as well. As mentioned previously if I were to wire these with my parking lights, then I would need to turn the parking lights on to have my angels on. Right?

I'm thinking i should delete the drls (change the signal flasher relay) and then wire the angels to ign (or another "on" 12 constant) so when the car is running, the angels come on automatically, but I still would retain full signal function. And when I turn the parking lights on, the turns will light up along with my angels. And when I turn low beams on, the halos, the parking, and the headlights will all be illuminated.

Does anyone recommend what fuse to tap into? It would have to be one thats live when the car is running, but dead when car is off... I've seen an "add a circuit" fuse tap before, so you can just plug the new circuit into the fuse box, and not be actually splicing and factory wiring. Has anyone else used these?

Is there anything I am missing.

Sorry to bump an old bump, but I'm curious what came of this. I have halos on the way and I noticed that the running/turn light only has two wires (not three). I figured I'd wire the halos to the parking lights (in the headlight housing).

I didn't consider splicing into the ignition wiring until I read the above posts, but I'm also not sure I'd want the lights on any time my key is on. I believe running lights are on with the key, but shut off when the parking brake is on. This would not be an option for me if I wired the hales inline with the ignition (unless I added a relay, which I've never done).

I'm curious if you have any advice for me. Thanks
