Wiring Dimmable Light In Aftermarket Dash Switch

I’m installing aftermarket dash switches to send trigger power to lighting relays. The brand of switches I’m using is irrelevant. I want one of the two LEDS in the switch to light up when the headlights are on and dim with the other dash lights. I know which terminals on the switch will accomplish this. I’m also aware that the ground side of the circuit is what dims the light. I’m looking for someone who has actually spliced into these wires and has firsthand experience with success in doing so.
My Question; In the picture below, are these the wires and correct polarity to provide power to the “dash” lights in our new switches?
I’ve done due diligence and read through a few threads that touched on my specific question. They were helpful in pointing me in the right direction but, as they went on the information was confused with conjecture, guesses, and comments that had little to do with the original topic. I’m starting this new thread to hopefully “unfog” the question with correct, straight to the point answers. Thank You.

I would stay away from the dimmer switch, wiring goes directly to the cluster instead of each bulb.
Use another switch or back of HVAC controls that are adjustable:

Green 12v
Gray negative dimmer

Do not short out wires together or you could damage the cluster or dimmer. Always verify and test with a meter.

Thanks for your answer! Have you wired lights like this with success?

...more info...?

We have it all figured out and it works AWESOME!

Care to share?

Most of us have steered clear of dimming circuit in the 5th Gens because they deal with the Body Control Unit instead of a rheostat. I don't remember who, but one member ended up frying his control unit and his dimming project became a multi hundred dollar control unit replacement project.

I am understandably curious as to how you got this accomplished...

did you ever figure it out? I'm at the exact same crossroads right now and want to make sure I'm not gonna cause any damage with my wiring.

I ended up having my auxiliary light switches come on with the parking lights - no dimming in them at all. That being said... I'm about to rip it all out and use a control unit that can be dimmed independently.

The answer lies somewhere in here! :)

Now that y'alls install video has been out for some time. Care to share a bit more detail about which factory switch you grabbed the green and grey wires from?

I'm a big fan of your channel but super apprehensive about tapping into a random switch, even after verifying everything with a meter.

Seems like i can grab it from the factory "heated wipers" switch. Green is 12v, and grey is ground, with resistance changing when the dimmer switch is adjusted. Does that sound right?

Chalk it up to anxiety, but I'd really love to hear from someone who has done it successfully before i pull the trigger.

Any guidance would be MUCH appreciated :)

Thanks for watching our videos! Yup, tapping into that switch and those wires will work just fine.

Do you know where the interior switches/controls get their dimmable power from?

If I wanted to add 3+ accessory switches, I'm a little concerned about drawing too much off one single switch. Or is it more of a single and shouldn't be an issue?

I tried looking through these PDFs, but I'm not making heads or tails of the diagrams.
