You know....I had the same problem....and had mine LineX'd as well...
I had to beat the legs in with a mallet to get them to bend in enough to fit, granted I'm not sure if they were as off as yours were.
Now if there is one thing that I've learned from welding it's that metal likes to warp on you when heat is applied. LineX'd gets up to 170 degrees and I'm not sure if that is enough to matter though. Maybe someone with more experience can weight in.
Great idea going LineX, I love mine! Also try ratchet straps on the legs to bend them back in.

I agree with what everyone else is saying. Yes it is a snug fit thats how little tolerance there is. I can't even imagine trying to install it myself as this is definitely a two person job. I am sorry I really am that it was a rough job on your own, but I don't believe that to be WM's fault. These are made very well that they are a perfect snug fit. Also you may want to take into account the painting/linexing or whatever you had done, and if their process was proper or if they perhaps tweaked it while they had it or maybe put too much material on which furthermore made it difficult to fit. My rear legs were also slightly off. I just gave each side a little tappy tap, BEFORE having it powder coated, and it fit snug as a bug, as it was meant to.
As others have said, this is definitely a 2 man job to ensure it fits properly without damage. Josh's work is second to none and I know these are designed to be as snug as possible. I definitely had to move the front feet, put a bolt in, move the rear feet, put a bolt in, etc. and it fit just fine.

So after ready this I'm taking it the rack didn't fit. Before you beat the hell out of it I would have contacted him. Maybe he could have gave you some advice. Since you didn't want to ship it back maybe he would have refunded you some if you did plan to keep it. It would have been good to see pics before you worked it over. Tagging him in here isn't the way to go.

Yes, as one other individual stated the baking process and how the rack was hung in the booth could have possibly "warped" the shape of the rack. Also the tight fit I was saying was in regards to how much linex they used. The thickness as well of the total material would cause a little more issue for you as I was saying. But again I guess you can be upset, that you decided to do it on your own, because you were frustrated you didn't want to confirm with the builder, physically mutilate and alter the rack, and then get on here without any follow up with him and state that the rack is not proper, and refute with everyone that you are strong enough and wise enough to install it on your own and know exactly how to do it. Even though you admit you were in a rush as you were losing daylight and don't want to admit that it is actually quite a process to properly install one of these with another and does take some patience :cheers:

You said your intention wasn't to discourage anyone from buying this product, and you aren't looking for compensation. Based on this, I assume your first post was intended to share your experience with all of us so that others may not have to go through what you did.
When reading your post, I too wanted to question your methods and find out what went wrong, but since none of us were there to experience the install issues you had, it's not fair for anyone to question your capabilities or methods.
Since the rack is already installed and you're happy with the final product, let's all move forward and be happy you were able to figure it out. I know if I were in your situation and went through the struggle you did, I'd be frustrated and ready for a few beers.

I also think you could have resolved this with Josh directly before trying to completely blame him and his work. How many weeks did this rack sit at your dad's shop? Something could have happened to it there. There are so many variables that could have happened but i think handling it the way you have is just you ranting because you were rushing and frustrated.

I don't mean to tag team him, but I was kind of thinking the same thing momo, I know I'm not much older than him but I do remember when I was 21 had a job, paid for everything myself, and knew everything. . . :bash:
oh and was always right and didn't LISTEN to anyone else, but simply argued. I hated constructive criticism

But.....I do agree that you should have contacted Josh first. I agree with you that it's not entirely impossible for these custom fabricators to make a mistake. They're trying to pump these racks out as quickly as possible and he very well could have made a miscalculation.

You will be very pleased with the rack. I would suggest getting help when mounting. I don't care how strong you think you might be but you will end up scratching your roof and being pissed off at the world if you try it by yourself

Sent him an email. I just live down on the Coast. 30 minute drive to their shop. Was going to ask if they would help with the install when I go to pick it up. I'm surprised being this close to them that I haven't seen or heard of there their work. But then again I've only had my 06 runner for 6 months.

You'll be very pleased. These racks are the best on the market, at the best price point.
Better be careful with them words phil, I smell a ban hammer coming...
add me in as one more who will be placing an order in w WMW...the reviews are 99% very positive but its always possible that anything couldve happened to alter that particular rack- from production, to shipping, and post delivery- shit happens...in the end, this will be a positive thing for future buyers/installers as ive learned a few tips for when i install mine

Wow! Time out. I do wish you would've emailed me before this all got eternally inter-webbed. The pictures you show look exactly like momo.75's did when I installed his. As another member mentioned, it almost has to hover at first to get the bolts threaded, then tighten then down, it's very awkward sometimes. I'm also suspecting there to be very slight, yet problem causing, variances from year to year. Many drop right on, some need a little tweaking. Had you contacted me I would've tried to help as best I can, being 5 hours away. That does not include driving up there to help. It's a custom fab'd part, shipped via freight carrier, lots can happen. Is it possible that between the welding heat and my human hands that something wasn't 100%, absolutely! I'm pretty easy to deal with and would have gladly paid for you to buy a rat tail file, a hammer, a pry bar, whatever you needed to get it sorted out. I truly wish everyone would test fit anything that's custom fab'd before coating. I'm sure some of the aggravation comes from having a coated piece that needs some massaging. I'm sorry yours didn't drop right on like many others have.
