WMW, Gobi just won't quit

I did read it a little. Got tired of people complaining about this and that. Its all business at the end of day. Any company would do anything to stop another company or person from ripping off their products.

You obviously didn't read the threads either. It's not the patent and the lawsuit that everyone is pissed off about, it's the way they handled themselves initially when the lawsuit began.

Don't waste your time. As far as this forum is concerned Gobi is a big bully and deserves to be punished. Doesn't matter if they were in the right or not. This is the way of the law on the Internet.

If you didn't read all of the thread then I think you bring your own bias to the situation. Using a pejorative phrases such as "ripping off their products..." leads me to believe that in life you are pro-business. Since there was never any judgment rendered about if the design was ripped off, maybe you should choose better words. I think if you were to place a Gobi rack next to a WMW rack you would not think one was a copy of the other.

Only thing the forum is concerned with is the shit GOBI tried to pull ON the actual forum and members, and tried to get the threads shut down, and have employees "interact" on the discussion. They weren't in the right for that, but I guess if you are dumb enough to disregard everything that arose and how the events unfolded fine. I don't think of them as a bully, I think of it like many others said as poor business practice made out of desperation.
As for law of the internet, for discrediting this mindset and what unfolded you sure do comment a lot of opposition on it?

I could honestly give two farts less what Gobi did or how they acted. Their business is theirs to run as they see fit (which has been fairly successful if they are 20+ employees). This forum, just like every other forum on the internet, reacted the same way with a lynch mob attitude and even when others tried to interject with opposite thoughts they were discarded and told that Gobi was just an evil company picking on poor little WMW and that they must be stupid or illiterate or ignorant to think otherwise.

As for my personal postings, I've always played devil's advocate for two reasons. I try to look at things from both sides of the fence and not follow the crowd and because I get a kick out of watching the reactions my posts cause.

Thats the problem. Your self justification by dismissing the actions that they tried pulling online is pathetic. In regards to a lynch mob, was no mob mentality. The company owner came in here with another co-worker lied, and than left. Sorry but that doesn't really speak volumes of honesty. Sorry if we didn't believe anything they say after that.
Again not calling Gobi an evil company or a shitty product. Just poor business practice as was proven and relevant in the threads. You can go against your better judgement and support the actions fine, but you shouldn't be picking and choosing which actions and discrediting others who caught them in the act.
The bias censorship of mods and others in this matter is pretty offputting and pathetic of this forum.

I have to ask. Have you looked through Gobi's filed design patent claim? It's extremely vague. And when someone else brought a just as good if not better product to market for a fraction of the cost, they went after them like rabid animals.

Then after that because it went out into the open of how poor and unprofessional their business practices are, they tried to hide all traces of it.

I would argue that Gobi's business practices are worse than what Underground Racing did when someone called them out on their quality of work and craftsmanship. Granted that guy was also probably pretty sleazy.

It's their patent, our system approved it, Gobi has every right to defend it.

There was and still is a mob mentality. The members on this forum have done everything they can to damage and destroy Gobi and if they could they would string them up from a tree. If that's not a mob mentality then I'm Barack Obama.

I'm not supporting or against anyone doing anything. I'm just merely stating the fact that Gobi exercised their right to protect their property in the manner that they saw fit which is completely inside the law of the United States of America. Whether you like it or not or it was sleazy or not doesn't matter. This is business and like it or not it's shady as **** and dirty. Maybe you just got to see a side of it you haven't before or maybe you've never been exposed to something like this before. I don't know. For me it's nothing new and normal but I try to leave my experience out of it.

As for this forum and the bias from the moderators, it's a privately owned entity to the best of my knowledge. If the moderators and owner of the site decide they want to remove a post then it's their right to do so. We all signed the agreement when we signed up for this site.

And if your posts help create the mob mentality that you complain about?

I don't think it is mob mentality. People here simply picked a team to support. For a variety of reasons more people that are pro WMW than Gobi commented. Gobi made it worse for themselves by getting involved in a sneaky manner. And when people read the patent information and realized how lame it was, legal or not, they commented against Gobi. Gobi came off looking like the bully and most people hate the bully.

Few know the real story and most will never know.

pro-business indeed. you remind me of charlie. "in the eyes of the law..."

none of this changes that GOBI lost their reputation here.

GOBI may have been protecting their intellectual property and doing so under the law (though some of their methodology seems questionable as was presented.) It does not change how they went about presenting themselves through out the process and how it fueled the distrust and anger towards their company.

Much in the way that one guy who jacked up the prices on AIDs medication is within his right to do so, it does not change how that company is perceived in the eye of the public.

Add in the facts and details and it does not paint GOBI or Intelligent Designs 2000 (GOBI's parent company) in the best of light. Everyone is also curious if ID2k will be going after Baja Racks as well based upon the company's history and apparent pattern of behaviour.

I'm not saying that GOBI is any worse than any other profit seeking company, just that many members on this forum seemed to have formed an idea that GOBI/ID2k was a company with morals that was perhaps above such tactics (as many people tend to think when viewing smaller companies.) Despite GOBI/ID2k being a small company as well, in this context they've shown that their behaviour is likened to a larger, morally bankrupt company. Hence the "David & Goliath" feeling that this entire issue has taken. It didn't help that ID2k did a poor job in handling the situation and only inflamed the forum members and further painted themselves in a poor light; they did a rather poor job of responding/retaliating to the forum as a company.

That's just my mostly unbiased observation of the entire fiasco.

I was about to type the same thing. If anything be upset at the system that approved the vague patent.

I think Gobi was very smart to capitalize on such a patent giving them full legality to do as they please. Very smart business move whether you and I agree with it or not. End of the day their goal is to make money and they've been doing just fine in that area

That was my take as well.

I'm pretty sure I read that Gobi has also sued Bajarack. I think someone posted a copy of the complaint from lexisnexis in one of the threads.

Looks like I need to buy a Baja Rack before they stop making them too. I was going to buy a Gobi ladder, but not anymore.

There is only so many ways you can build a full-length roof rack and to have a vague patent and try to build 13 differences into another design to avoid infringement... good luck.

The System is skewed.

BTW you don't see Yakima suing Gobi for the "fairing" design do you... I know for a fact Yakima had that fairing design way before Gobi did.

I just cancelled my gobi rack mainly because the quality isn't there, sloppy welds and not all their tubes are notched. Looks cheap to me after seeing in person. Not sure how whitson metal works got sued he clearly makes a better product that isn't an exact copy.

you should share your findings in the GroupBuy currently open for gobi. I am truly surprised at how many here are still going to throw them money despite practices and (lack of) quality.
