wont start (new starter and battery)

hello. please help. well i thought i had a starter problem. with the help from you guys i changed the starter (thanx by the way) still nothing.got my battery checked, it had a bad cell so i was like yoohoo got a new battery and still nothing. the relay clicks (and a visual inspection looks good) is there a fuse between the relay and the starter? which wire is pos. and which is neg. bolted on wire on starter or the clip in one? would the ignition switch be faulty but still trip the relay? can i run a wire direct from battery to pos. on starter woulkd that wreck the starter?(just to check the starter is working) sorry to be so jam packed with questions but im so agitated im starting to get a migraine. oh one more question how do i test a relay, do i add a 12v charge and continuity test the proper prongs on the relay that should send the current through? or might it just be something else that im not thinking about. im trying my best to do the work myself but im almost to the point of aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. thanks again for the help....

There might be a fusible link on the starter wire.

I've had them burn out on vehicles before. If thats the case, cut it out, and put a replaceable fuse in there with new wire. Make sure you replace all the burnt wire. Hope this helps.
