Worst Nightmare

Hi All, been lurking here for a while hunting for my first 4Runner.

So this morning I bought a 2001 SR5 4x4, test drove great, very little surface rust and a few cosmetic scratches for a 13 year old vehicle. New brakes and rotors, new tires.

I started digging through the previous owners pile of service papers and found one for a radiator replacement and transmission fluid replacement and a tow. This was only 4 months and 8k miles ago.

So my assumption is I bought a milkshaked truck. :( the one thing I was trying to avoid. The question is would it have survived those extra 8k if the transmission was damaged or am I screwed? I even pre-bought a B&M cooler to avoid this situation.

I was so happy about this truck until I saw this.

Well he didn't drive it if it did happen and it got flushed and it shifts fine. Enjoy your new truck and stop worrying.

Yes, I agree with above.. Call the PO and talk to them about it. Get the info and see what the situation was. Better to know outright rather that make assumptions. :) Hoping for the best for you. Cheers.

8k - that would be one hell of a delayed reaction to pink milkshake.. do what others said and if it drives fine now don't worry about it :)

Thanks for the suggestions, called the guy and said that it happened in his driveway and got towed instantly and flushed. I guess it is nice to have a new radiator.

I feel your pain. I just bought a 96 and a few weeks later found out the head is cracked. I would install that trans cooler and drive on. If the fluid looks clean and it shifts fine, you may be ok.
