Would anyone with BudBuilt Sliders Take a Couple of Measurements?

I'm very close to purchasing sliders for my 4Runner and have narrowed it down to BudBuilt and Shrockworks. I realize that there have been many posts about sliders, but what I can't seem to find is how wide the BudBuilts are (with the full tread plating) at the front of the car where the driver / front passenger step in. I found the dimensions for the Shrockworks here:

My priority is for the front seats. I'd also be interested in the rear bump out measurement, but my priority is the front width. Would anyone be able to measure that for me?

I'm leaning toward BudBuilt if they would be willing to make them flat rather than angled due to the fact that my priorities are 1. Steps 2. Door protection from careless folks, and 3 Off road protection. While I do plan to off road a a bit, I see that happening a lot less than I see people needing steps to get in or out (especially if I lift the 4Runner a couple of inches). I also have big feet and need something wide enough to step on for myself getting in or out.

Anyway, if anyone could get me the measurement, I would be grateful!

I've got Budbuilt bumpouts with full tread plating, standard build, i.e. angled upward and not flat. They are more than adequate to be used as steps for getting into and out of the vehicle. I've been doing a lot of work on the truck lately (mounting Rigid lights, accessories to the Gobi, etc.) and I've been standing on them to reach the top of the truck. Albeit, at times you have to place your feet sideways, i.e. parallel to the slider, but no issues using them as steps. I'm 6' with a 10.5 shoe size. They work well for my 5' wife too.

I'll try to get some measurements in the morning when it's light out.

Thanks! That's good to hear. I actually wear an 11 1/2 wide in running shoes so I appreciate your willingness to measure as I don't want it to be so tight that I end up kicking the paint every time I use the step.


How do you like having them at an angle? Part of me wants to keep them angled for better off-road protection, but I've been scared that a shorter passenger would have trouble using them as a step if I lift the 4runner 2 inches.

Measures about 4 1/2" in the front and 6 1/2" in the back at the widest point. If you got them flat they would be a bit wider but I think they are fine as is. I like them angled.

I've got a 2" lift as well.

You can get budbuilt to build them with an additional inch (or two?)of distance from the frame rail. I had mine done for no additional cost.

Interesting idea - I had only thought about the angle change - not requesting extra width. How much extra did you request on yours? And did you request it only at the front? Or an extra X amount across the whole thing including the bump out?

I would recommend you try to see/use some sliders in person, if your #1 priority is steps then buy steps, not sliders. Steps hang down lower then sliders, I agree with the above comments that sliders (specifically the budbuilts, but applies to similar designs) can be used as steps, and I use mine every time I enter and exit the truck however in reality its harder to enter and exit with the sliders on then without them, its an awkward leg up/entry into the truck. Lets just say if you ordered steps and someone sent you sliders you would not be a happy camper.

I just don't want you (or your wife or small children etc) to be expecting an easier time to get into the truck with sliders and then be unhappy with your $6-800 purchase.

Getting the sliders to come out straight vs. angled up would give you another couple inches.

I requested an extra inch everywhere. essentially, they lengthened the tubing from the frame plate to the actual slider so the dimension of the foot portion was the same just a little more accessible (not tucked under body).

I appreciate the concern. May I ask, as far as sliders go, what is the primary reason for angling them up as opposed to being flat? Is that just for jagged rocks that might protrude and scratch the vehicle over the edge of a flat slider?

I do realize it will be a higher step with sliders as opposed to true steps. What I'm trying to do is basically go for middle ground where I can hopefully have some protection for the times I do go off road (whereas steps provide no protection) as well as rocks being kicked up from the tires while driving (since I plan to get a tread plate), have some protection from door dings, and have a semi-useful step into the vehicle as well.
