I just walked into Autozone for a brake light bulb. I forgot what the number was, so I asked the kid at the counter to look it up for me. "1999 4Runner", I said. "4Runner, 4Runner, 4Runner", he says, paging through his dropdown list. "That's Ford right?" It gets better. He's going through all his options, which motor, which transmission, 2wd or 4wd, none of which is relevant but whatever. His last question? Front or rear.

For a brake light.

I wish this was a joke. I don't know why I set foot in that place.

You should have asked him if he could go into the back storage and grab you a bottle of the Toyota blinker fluid to refill your signals as well... :gossip: That would've burned off most his afternoon on the hunt for that.

First thing I do after buying a new car is remove the brake lights from the front. I don't want people in front of me looking through their rear view mirror to know whether I'm stopping or not! :laugh:

There was a time when Auto Parts Store Employees actually seemed to be knowledgeable. Now, if they can't find a listed application in their computer, it doesn't exist.

I recall not too long ago, going in to buy some spark plugs. I told the "Parts Advisor" what brand, model #, and stock# of spark plug I was looking for.

He came back with "What vehicle is it for?" I told him the engine wasn't in a vehicle at the moment, and even if it was, the particular vehicle wouldn't be in their database. He said "Well then I can't look it up for you".

I said I already told you the Model#, and Stock#, do you want the preset gap, thread pitch, reach, and heat range too?

That was apparently beyond his skill level, So I ended up ordering them from an Online parts supplier.

I've had good luck with the NAPA stores in West Valley and downtown. They've still got the counters manned with old hands who've been there and done that and don't mind helping you figure out an unusual application.

I called Autozone to get a price on a trailer wiring kit.

"Sir, we don't have the kit, just the wiring, and you have to buy the lights seprately."

"No. I've seen the kits in there before. That's ok. I'll just take my business elsewhere."

This was an Auto Parts store that starts with an 'O' in Brownsburg, IN.

The appearance of the 'Parts Specialist', made me wonder if they were actually cooking Meth on-premises.

I've had good experiences with the autozone stores here in Nashville. I just have to keep in mind that they don't always know what they're talking about. Customer service had been great, though.

The parts desk at the Toyota dealership nearest me doesn't know their asses from their elbows either. I have to call the dealership downtown to get someone competent.

Went to autozone once to get plugs for my F150 lightning I had at the time, I walk in girl says how can i help you today, i replay i need a set of plugs for a f150 lightning 1 ranger colder than stock....she backs up and says loudly...ooooo this man talking chinese to me i dont know what he just said. I swear thats what she honestly said....as the manager walked out from the back I just turned around and walked away. Ive worked in auto parts, oem and aftermarket since like 1994 and some of the crap ive heard amazes me lol
