Agreed, I miss the 6 speed manual from my 2006 Xterra, but other then a Wrangler you can't get one any more.

At this point in my life with my need to tow a boat, haul a wife, child, and dog, and still use 4wd on forest roads to go to remote hikes, I'm 100% positive that I chose the perfect vehicle.
Even if my next car a decade from now isn't a 4runner, I can almost say without a doubt it will be another Toyota truck. I passed an early 90s Toyota Pickup the other day and thought to myself, "those trucks still look better than any small-midsize pickup offered since they were new." My point is, Toyota trucks don't ever look old to me. Their design just ages so well.

Over the years I have owned a new Cherokee, a Disco II and a P38. Honestly if I knew the 4runner had such a lousy sound system and my leg would get numb on 3 hour trips, I would have bought a LR3.

Unfortunately no. Have a 2007 v8 limited and the new runner is just too sluggish. Ended up placing order for a land cruiser.

I think this is my 9th 4Runner. Pretty sure that answers your question.
Not sure for me, but my wife absolutely loves it. I have different needs so I drive a full size Z-71. I helped her narrow her choices due to the tried and true drivetrain and Body on Frame construction. She likes everything about it, and does not notice the minor lack of power, even though when you really mash it down it moves on just fine. It is the best mid-size SUV for what we needed.
Toyota reliability also went a long way in our decision. Our first Toyota, and so far it is awesome.

Yes, most definitely. Since I owned the third gen. as well I can make a direct comparison between the two, this fifth gen. lost some of its agility in the transition from a compact to a midsize SUV. For sure the ride is more plush and has a greater overall solid feel than its predecessor, but is just doesn't have that side-to-side quickness that the earlier 4Runners possessed.
Slightly off topic, I really don't understand the lack of horsepower complaint..we are driving a big and heavy (4500 lbs) body on frame vehicle with a V6. The sluggishness would be expected!

No regrets. I don't find it to be down on power at all, even with 33s and Shrockworks bumpers, front and rear. Just give it more gas and it'll do what you want. If it's not doing what you want, i.e. towing very heavy loads, 0-60 in sub 8 seconds, etc, then a V6 should have never been on your list in the first place. Not being insulting, just honest.

Counter-point - Toyota has a V8 that would fit in the truck easy-peasy and they just choose not to add it.

Heavy loads? My current 4Runner ten years old tows more than the new ones by 2000 lbs. and yes is sluggish. Drive an old one with the v8. You will know what I mean.

Traded an H2 for my 2012 TE and have been more than pleased. There are times on longer road trips where I wish we would have gotten the Range Sport but 9 days out of 10 we couldn't be happier. We had the opportunity at Overland Expo East to take our TE through the Land Rover driving course and crushed it. We even pulled out an LR4 which had taken a bad line and ended up in a rut. That day was particularly epic for the wife who got mad props from the Uwharrie club for showing up the Rover guys. To answer the original question...yes, however we would get the TEP next time around.

It would be a LC 200 (or LX), GX 460 or another 4Runner for me. Probably in that order. Nothing wrong with the runner at all. I just like the extra power that the LC and GX have, and I'm a LC guy at heart. The 4Runner is probably the most sensible choice of the group when you consider that it costs a lot less, is a bit more efficient and there are more of them out there....oh and the sliding rear window is awesome. Were I towing, or looking to a sporty car feel, I would have just got a tow vehicle or sporty car instead. For some reason there are people who expect a heavy ass BOF SUV to do everything all other vehicles can combine. Not gonna happen, well at least in this price range.
The truth is...I'm not sure.
I like the truck, but after a year and a half, I haven't fallen in love with it.
It's over engineered and there are a couple of things that I absolutely hate about it. The crappy factory tires, the ridiculously bad navigation and poor sounding radio, and the rice paper thin paint for starters.
I'm not too fond of the anemic V6 either. In the mountains especially I find myself constantly using S mode to keep the RPM's up.
I drove a 454 V8 for 18 years...this was definitely a step down. It was the practical thing to get, but sometimes I wish...

I would recommend it to all of my friends but I wouldn't buy the same generation 4runner again. Seems silly to me to buy the same truck twice. I would buy the next generation for sure but if I lost my 4runner tomorrow I'd probably try a Tundra for a few years until the 6th gen 4runner came out.
