Would you replace all four tires or just an axle after a blowout? SR5 V6 4WD.

Had a blow out today. My other three tires are 7/32, 8/32, 8/32, and all with around 20k on them. Not looking for a full replacement bill, so I'm wondering if there's any reason not to just replace an axle?

Does the V6 have a center diff lock like the V8s do? If so, and you only replace 2 tires, then it may take a lot longer for the center diff lock to engage/disengage because the 2 axles are spinning at different speeds due to the different tire diameters. Also, if/when you drive in 4Hi, you may put a little more strain on the center diff, but since you have the V6 and can drive in 2Hi you can avoid that.

An alternative would be to buy a used tire of a similar diameter, or maybe have somebody shave down a new tire.

Not on my 4runner but I had a bad tire on my VW and I took it too a used tire place and found something that had damn near the same wear on it. I wasn't in the market to get all 4 corners replaced yet so it was the perfect option and it was only $60 with mounting/balancing.

We run open differentials front and rear. I would only change the blown tire. The diff will allow the wheels to spin st different speeds. Why waste money

You dont really have a true 4WD / 4x4. Only 1 wheel powers the truck in the front and rear. Even using the center diff lock, the front wheels are not locked together. Neither are the rear. So in effect you have a 2 wd when in 4WD. Sucks, dont it?
