Wrong weight gear oil used by Dealership

After searching long and hard to find w75 for the t-case and 75-80 for the diffs I gave up and decided it was worth it to let the dealer do my service. I called up the local dealer and they said they had the correct weights. Price wasnt too bad at $200.

Word to the wise. Check your invoice after they do the change. I just noticed they put in 80w90. Now I have to deal with a bunch nonsense trying to figure out if they can get the right oil and redo the 4x4 service.

That is funny. I have performed the same service on my Xterra using a different weight oil than was recommended due to the lack of availability.
No worries.

I had 75w-90 Royal Purple in my T-case for a year and had to switch to OEM Toyota 75W mostly due to difficult shifting in and out of 4WD and in part to lower MPG (17.0 then vs 17.5 now).

Dealer forgot to put oil in at oil change

I have a 5 month old new 2016 4runner went in for its 15k service.
The mechanic forgot to put oil back in.
I drove it 7.3 miles the engine light came on, I pulled in a parking lot & it died.
Dealership sent someone out to me & they put 6qts of oil in.
On the way back to the dealership the 4runner was running bad with a crazy idle.
They kept it for a day & said to come get it everything is fine??
They gave me a free detail ??
What should I do? Afraid to pick it up & drive it!!

I'd get in touch with Toyota and get them involved. They went to bat for me when my dealer charged me for a warranty item and refused to let me have my vehicle until it was paid for.

That engine is probably toast if it ran 7.3 miles without oil. At a minimum you probably put many thousands of miles worth of wear on the cylinders/rings/bearings/cams/etc. It's a testament to Toyota it ran that long but I would not pick that thing up. I would be talking to the service manager asking them WTF was their service guy thinking and WTF are you going to do to make right. I would not settle for anything less than a new engine. You don't run an engine without oil for 7 miles and expect it to be ok. They need to at least open it up and see what it looks like on the inside.
