Finally reached my post count :rockon: Well, here goes nothing!

WTB:
3rd Gen Toyota 4Runner

Must have: 6 cyl, 4x4, rear locker, sunroof, solid frame & body, solid maintenance history

Preferred: Not in the rust belt, <200k, stock

Looking to spend around $5.5k, but flexible for the right rig. I live in Wisconsin but have spring break from school starting March 11 so I'm ready to do some travel. Have seen some nice ones on CL but they all seem to sell before i can set anything up.

Hey, I've got a '97 Limited, fully loaded, auto with ~135k.

Mild modifications (a couple in progress), fresh wheels, tires, brakes (tundra), battery, starter and shocks. Water pump done at 127k, She's not perfect but definitely no problems to speak of. As far as rust is concerned I live just north of Chicago; I haven't found any rot but there's definitely a surface coating.

5.5 is pretty far into the low end of what I'm looking for but if you're interested feel free to pm me.

I need help guys, I have (2) 3rd gen 4runners help me decide which one to keep and which one does sell.

The first one is a 1998 four wheel drive limited edition with factory locking rear differential the timing belt has not been changed on it, it has 190,000 miles. Interiors great outside has a few small dings and dents nothing major.

The second one I have is a 1999 sr5 four wheel drive, the body is clean the interior is OK it too has 190,000 miles there is no locking rear differential on this one the timing belt was replaced on this one 15k miles ago. I really like the cup holders in the 99 as opposed to the 98 please give me some advice of which one to keep and which one to sell

Not to hijack this thread, but I would recommend keeping the 98
-Personally I'm not incredibly concerned with the outside of a truck, especially if you're gonna be doing any real amount off-roading with it.
The exterior being the biggest pro of the '99, it's gonna get dinged up anyway so I wouldn't be so concerned.
-The locking rear diff in my 97 has saved me from Chicago ice and terrain more times than I can count and I've only had her for a couple years.
-Cup holders: go to your local junkyard or do a quick search on Craigslist for a 2000's 4runner Gen III that's being parted out and pick up the entire center console and trim for a few bucks. All that holds them in are a couple screws and a couple snap-in trim pieces. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but to my understanding they're completely interchangeable. I can't see the whole swap taking more than 10 minutes start to finish.

^Hopefully that's helpful, either way you end up with a Runner so you can't really make a wrong choice.

if you're actually serious about travel - what about Canada?

I used to own a '97 4x4 V6 Locker with Sunroof - Bilstein 5100 and LC shocks with 9.25 wraps. I found it on Kijiji (Canadian Craigslist) and it's back on the market.

I flopped it so it may have a bit of body damage but if you're looking for a rig to actually wheel then it's a contender I think. I repaired most of it but there is a crunch mark on the windshield line - didn't move the A-Pillar though and the door still closed tight with good body lines.

And the price is right - I can get it for $2,200CAD
