WTB, I am looking to buy my daughter a 3rd gen

I have been looking for 4 weeks and finding mostly junk (outside of this forum).

I assume that if someone on here has a nice one to sell, it would already be posted, but I figure it can't hurt to reach out.

It will be her car to send her off to college in, but for the next several months we will share it, therefore we are going halves on the price.

Keeping in mind that she's a kid heading off to college and we aren't rich, if anyone has a reliable 3rd get 4runner out there, we'd love to have a look at it!

I have already reached out to another forum member that has one posted, but it's at the ultimate upper end of our price range.

We live in KS, so any extreme distance would likely put it out of our reach, unless it was a ridiculous deal that would make a one-way plan ticket worth the cost.

In a perfect world, it would be an automatic, even though she can drive a 5 speed.

Year... I really like 98-2000, but not a big deal.

budget... not to be intentionally vague, but I guess it depends on what I'm getting for the money.

Great looking but needs mechanical work... not interested.

If it's mechanically "perfect" but it looks pretty rough with rough interior... I'd be hard pressed to spend more than $4,500.

One owner, always garaged, no salt winters, owned by a certified Yota mechanic, with OCD.... I'll dip into my 401k!

The reason I made that last comment is that I actually just missed one very much like that on CL in my home town... $4,200, original owner, little old lady story, PRISTINE!!, all work done at the dealership... etc! I was 20 min late... obviously the first person that went to see it snatched it up!!!


I can buy them all day long around me for 4-6 grand, but it would be nice to get one from an enthusiast that really knows their vehicle.
