I heard about the Wyeth Scott puller on another forum and thought it might interest 4R owners. The puller weighs about 25 pounds and cost $385 incl shipping. It can lift 2 tons or pull 4 tons and I figure it could be very handy for off-road travel as well as useful around the property. I was once stuck on a boggy trail, bottomed out in a soft patch while out hunting, and I had a helluva long walk for help. A good puller would have done the job in no time. IMO a fancy comealong vs a winch is kinda like comparing one of these
and one of these:
They both work for the same thing. If you're doing one pull a few feet once in a while the manual version is okay. If you want to use it often, the regular winch is a lot more handy. $385 is way overpriced for what you're getting. This is the same thing for $150 - but I probably wouldn't even buy at that price. ^ the pull length is actually really good compared to a typical come-along, most of those have about a 12' pull
it's not the same thing, that one is cast from chinesium and there are a lot of bad reviews about the casting or parts breaking on first use

It's all cast iron isn't it? This one has the same rope length as the standard and is made in the USA with the same pull rating. Tuf-Tug Cable Hoist Puller, 6,000 lb. Pull Double Line - For Life Out Here for $180.
The pull length on the wyeth-scott are either 10 feet or 17.5 feet. They have 20 or 35 feet of rope and are used as a 2:1 pull so they'll pull the load half that distance at the rated capacity. I'm sure they'll work in a pinch. Just like a manual screwdriver works pretty well. It's just a matter of how much manual labor you want to put in. They're slow and require a lot of work. I have a couple of the smaller come alongs for utility work. If you're stretching a fence they work great. If you're looking for vehicle recovery, you can buy a small electric winch for less money.

not all cast iron is equal, the American Power Puller has awful reviews
The Tuf-Tug you posted is a typical come-along with a 6' pull length, that is the standard. There are a lot of good options for that price or less. You can get the Wyeth Scott with 35' of cable or amsteel blue for ~17' max pull (you have to leave a few wraps on it) which is a major improvement. The other advantage of the wyeth scott is being able to use amsteel blue and that it has replacement parts.
That superwinch is nice if 2 tons is enough, I wish it had 5/16" cable though

The superwinch is 4000lbs single line pull. If you use the included block like the come alongs - it's 8000lbs. Sometimes 8000lbs isn't enough, but it does the trick most of the time. It seems like that must be a typo on the cable size. Normal 3/16 wire rope is only around 3800lbs tensile strength. I can't imagine putting rope with less tensile strength than the winch's capacity on it. Typical synthetic rope is more like 5000 in that size and the high tech heat treated stuff is around 9,000lbs in 3/16 dia but it's $2 per foot so it adds up on a low cost winch. I sure hope they aren't putting undersize rope on the wire rope version.

years. Yeah, it's not as convenient as
a winch. But a winch is just going to pull you deeper into the mud or whatever you got stuck in/on. Never saw a winch on any truck that can flip you back over if you are upside-down. That big ass come along can put you rubber side down, if it's still driveable, could save ya a long walk.
Just my 2 cents worth. YMMV
