X-mas tree carryon

Did a brief search and could not find any threads on how ppl got on with carrying their Xmas trees on the 4runner. Any recommendations/tips on how to best go about taking one aboard the default cargo tray.. (Avoiding scratches/dents etc.)

Last year I threw it in the back and out the rear window. Worked out pretty well except for a few needles.

Yup, this. We cut a fresh tree every year. No prob. Given what a pita it is to clean that "fabric" that Toyota puts in the wayback, I'd never, ever, put the tree inside.

Buy a full/queen size mattress bag/cover at lowes/home depot and put the tree in the bag, then put the whole bag in the back of your rig. Then no needles to worry about anywhere inside or out (or scratches). It also helps big time bringing it into the house this way. Then save the bag and use it after the season to take it out of the house and bring it to the dump or wherever you dispose of it. Done it this way for years and it works like a charm!

Bundled it up, threw it up top (not literally), and tied it down nice and tight with string. I've got a roof rack though, so it's a little different once it's elevated off of the paint.

I'd wrap it up like others here have mentioned.

Sounds like a good excuse to buy a roof rack!
