X-REAS suspension lift driving manners

I'm having a sober second thought. I've purchased Toytec 3" lift/leveller, lined up a mechanic to install... Bought some 17" rims. Getting ready to slap on some 285s.

Now a question that I probably should have asked first. For those of you who are running this setup (or similar), to what degree has it negatively affected your T4R's highway driving manners?

I expect an impact - but how much?

Thanks again.

Actually that's one of the contributing factors that led to this question. It's still not too late for me to shift things closer to stock. I wanted to gain ground clearance for those rough Canadian Shield moose hunts - but 90% will be highway running.

Just wondering how much depreciation of the ride comes w the lift and 285s?

Sounds like a case of Buyers Remorse........to answer your question, I had the XREAS on for close to 2 yrs. I don't have the package you bought but the aftermarket system I put on is hands down better on/off road....did you do enough research? If so, you should be confident in the decision you made.

I second this. I just went back and re read it and he asks you all the right questions only YOU can answer. BTW my truck has better tires. No different rims, no suspension mods, not bigger tires, just better tires. This vehicle stock has more off road capabilities than you have courage probably.

Not quite 'buyers remorse' yet. I haven't pulled the trigger on the tires yet... The lift kit is purchased, but its in an unopened box so it can go back. The Black Rhino Sidewinder rims are 17" - so okay there I think. the -12 offset with no lift and 265 tires might be a problem...

Did I do enough research? I am not sure. This is such a subjective process - its is difficult to wade through the copious amounts of information (when this is not my area of expertise at all) :help:

Agreed. It's a learning process and I'd hate the lack of expertise to lead to a bad decision.

Question: Given that you are not familiar with suspensions, lifts and major mods like this why did you buy it all at once? My advice would be:
1. Tires. Get some good tires in stock (no mod needed) or 285 (minor mod like fender liner moved slightly)
2. Wheels. Get as close to stock BS and Offset as possible for minimum of mods
3. Lift. Spacer lift does nothing for ground clearance. Only taller tires will give you that. Spacer lifts give you no advantage off road. If anything, they can be a detriment. If you want to change suspension for offroad go Icon, Toytec or something. Spacer lifts are for those just wanting the look IMO.

Mine handles fine on and off-road even with mud tires. The only thing that is left to be desired off-road is a real lack of travel with the OEM suspension in situations where articulation would be nice. A-TRAC has got me through those areas without fail so far. (two wheels off the ground)

I have had this set-up for almost 3 years now, and my truck has 60,000 miles on it now. I will be upgrading to a full on aftermarket suspension this year most likely. It's time.

I lifted my FJ last year and I think the best decision I made was to include new upper control arms in the package. I was able to easily keep the alignment in spec and push the caster forward to help with clearance. My commute has me running 80 to 85 mph routinely and the vehicle drives great. Without the upper control arms I don't think I could have gotten the alignment to where it is and would not have the driving behavior I have now which is much better than it was stock.
