Thank you everyone for the DIY guides. I am about to perform this install today, do i need to use the relay in the black box? or connect straight to the ballast?

I did not use the relay based on reading that others did not use it and had no issues.

but i thought relay is there for two reasons. one is for safety. the other is so the current/load can be drawn directly from the battery/alternator rather then the the signal source.

It's my understanding that it is included because not all vehicles have enough power from the original source to power the HIDs

I am having a very hard removing the plastic trim around the sides of the engine bay to tuck in the ballasts, any tricks? i tried moving it towards the windshield but no luck.

Does the rubber strip pop out first before the trim?

I've had my XD HID's (low beams) in since this past summer, no issues here and I only used the ballasts. It takes several seconds for the lights to warm-up to full power but that's not an issue for me...

It should come off as one unit. Lift up the rubber weather stripping and you'll see how they're held in underneath. They just slide off the posts they're attached to (like an MLOK or Keymod slot if you're familiar with those). There's one up near the windshield that's pretty tight on mine and takes a bit of force to slide off.

Yeah it is...

Kudos on the slot references...

yes. keep in mind the original signal was to light up a halogen bulb. but unless a relay is used (one side goes to 12V and the other side is the original signal), the original signal will no be used to power up the ballast, igniter and xenon bulb. i'm not saying i wont work, but it's designed to work with a relay for a reason :dancin:

What's a good alternative to using double side tape? My concern is having a hard time to remove the ballast if it needs to be replaced.
