1- You don't need the canbus for the low beams with either LED or HID.
2- As for the 5000K color, that's a great choice to get a crisp white color and our most popular option.

Package will be here today. Yall got me buggin' out about this install haha. I bought a conical drill bit. And will install Saturday night. I work on cars a lot but never did HIDs. Is this going to be pretty straight forward and idiot proof?

I would say nothing to worry about as the HID kit is plug n play and it's easy to get to the headlights on the 4Runner. if it helps here is a DIY install guide for the 4Runner:

I retract my previous statement. These will decimate all!!! Installed them last night. My god how have I gone this long without them. Are the stock headlights and fogs lights just that bad or are these that good? Install was quick and painless. I just hope everything stays good and no moisture occurs. The grommet fit but there is some movement so I hope it is all good. I did the HID 5000K Extreme low beams and the Phillips 2700K Yellow LED fogs. Kudos to all.
Just installed mines over the weekend.
I had some Toytec and Kensun ones where the bulbs kept strobing and flashing to point where I got super annoyed of them. Also, when it rained, the driver side would stop working until I turned the lights on and off for a couple of times.
The plug and play kit for from Xenon Depot have worked flawlessly. No more strobing or flickering. I also got the LED fogs and they look amazing.
Glad I finally made the switch to these. They were super easy to install.

I'm happy with the LED but I think it's very much a person-by-person use case. I went back and forth between the two and it came down to, for me, this is my DD that I use 90% for commuting and 10% country roads/camping/etc so the LED works well for my needs on public roads. With that being said, I decided that for any non-public/city driving that I would be upgrading to, and relying on, some form of ancillary lighting e.g., light bar, fogs, etc. and that is where I'll 'go big or go home' at.
I would say there's maybe a 20-25% or so visual increase in light output from stock halogens compared to the LEDs.

I was going thru the same thought process a couple of weeks ago. I ended up going with the 5000K low beams and the Phillips 6000K fog light. I added a LaminX yellow filter over the fog because I wasn’t sure if I would like the yellow long term. I can always take the LaminX off if I don’t like. Cheaper than changing the bulb.
That said, wow are these lights great. Cannot believe the difference. One learning... you do not need to remove the fender bolts to change the fog lights. I did mine from laying on my back and just reaching up. Start on the drivers side first. You can see and access everything. The passenger side is a little more tricky as you cannot see, but you can feel easily after you have done one. Literally took me 5 minutes to do both once I figured out what I was doing. Enjoy!

Honestly, it's a personal preference so go with what you think looks best in your eyes but having said that 5000K and yellow combo is one of our most popular options.

Just installed the 5000k kit. I was worried at first it would be too white/blue and would cause eye strain. I think the 5000k is perfect, just a hint of orange color to reduce eye strain. I was also worried that there would be a fair amount of light "bleed" above the cutoff, but it still cuts off very sharply and looks great.

So I ordered the H11 HID Extreme kit with the Philipps 4300K bulb for my 2011 LE, but I am worried I might have made a mistake. Will these actually work decently with a pre-2016 non-projector housing? The guidance in the T4R compiled lighting section (which I somehow missed) says the housings are different and early ones are not HID compatible. Has anyone here successfully installed in an early 5th Gen? Please tell me i didn't just waste a bunch of cash.....

Hi,
Yes, the HID upgrade will work for your 2011 4Runner as well but because you don't have projector headlights then you may not get the cutoff you get with projector headlights. Our HID bulbs are laser aligned to match the filament of a halogen bulb which ensures proper beam pattern and very little glare. As long, your vehicle isn't listed then the HID kit will work without any concerns or issues.

Just installed my 4300 Philips set. I agree that the cut off is nice and I was able to aim them down quite a bit as to not glare other drivers and still throw a ton of light on the road. Can't believe I waited two years to do this. oh well, the H9's were a nice interim solution.
The hardest part is mounting and routing the wires. I like what you did above with the added braided loom and zip tying to the fender plastic. Where did you put the part of the harness that has the little black box (not the ballast)? I 3m taped it under that plastic cover.
