XM - Recent Renewals?

Well, I called earlier this week as my renewal was approaching 9/4/2011 and I didn't want my account auto-renewed. I had called once before, a few months ago and got tossed around and eventually I gave up.

This time I informed them, that I had changed my credit card and wanted to take care of this before the service stopped. They were attentive this time, and when they told me the rates I advised them to cancel my account. This went on for 3-4 times.

Eventually, I ended up with XM for another year with the addition of XM Traffic for a courtesy price of $75 plus tax/fee's..worked out to just a couple bucks more.

I still hate dealing with them, although am very happy I got them to honor the $75 deal and throw in Traffic.

That is the best deal I have heard. I got $77 for a year last year. When I called this year to renew I told them I would like to get another year for $77. She asked if I received an email which I said I did not. She then told me that since I had already received the special promotion once I would not be allowed to get it again. I told her to go ahead and cancel my service then. Like others have said on here, she told me to hold on then returned to let me know that they would give me the 1 year promotion for $77. She said this is the last time that I would be able to get that price.

I wonder what will happen next year?

I was just very persistent that I wanted my account canceled unless she gave me the special rate and included the XMTraffic. I told her that would be the only way they would keep me, otherwise I would cancel my account.

She had to talk to her supervisor multiple times, I was put on hold often but thankfully after 25 minutes I got what I wanted. She wasn't letting me off the phone...

She only charged my Amex 75.56 and I have all the channels and XM Traffic now. Both expire (or auto-renew) August 24th, 2012.

I called to renew mine right after I read your post and after being transferred (because I was going to drop the service) they offered me the same deal. Thanks for post.

Wow, that's a great deal. I think I'm still paying like 20 bucks a month for xm + traffic. I will have to call them up and see about "cancelling" mine too.

I got an e-mail notification that my XM subscription was in default (because of an expired Credit Card). The account balance was $400.00.

Apparently the $77 first year - does an auto-renewal for 3 years @ a rate of 400.00 bucks. REALLY glad that credit card didn't work.

Strongly suggest everyone to pay attention to their termination/renewal dates.

Got another year w/ traffic for $77.00 - no hassle and only 7-10 minutes on the phone.

Just a reminder to everyone - you don't have to give them a credit card. I got the $77 deal last year. I told them to bill me. I sent them a check when I received the bill.

That way you don't have to worry about them auto-renewing and billing your card. Glad to hear everyone's still getting the $77/year deals.

Just an update:

I called yesterday to renew and they refused to do the $77/year deal. I asked to cancel the service and they transferred me. I don't remember the CSR's name, but we had a little attitude and language barrier. I finally just told her to forget it and hung up. :flipoff:

I called back today to tell them to cancel. World of difference in the CSR! She was helpful and immediately said she could do the $77/year deal. As I mentioned before, they can bill you and you don't have to worry about the auto-renewal on a credit card if you mail them a check.

She said all of their plans auto-renew, so it's a good idea to put a reminder on your calendar each year.

Thanks for posting the strategy. I just received my auto renewal notice and followed the recommendations above with regard to cancelling my service. I got the $77/year after a few lame attempts on their part to give me other deals that included 1/2 off, reduced # of channels, etc. There were a few interruptions for the CSR to "talk with their manager" but she came back every time with a better offer. I also removed my credit card from the account and got them to send me a bill. The whole process took 21 minutes with the first 10 listening to their hold music.

This forum rocks!

Don't know if it was mentioned...get them to throw in the internet radio pkg for the same price. I listen on my computer more than my car.

I renewed on Friday the 21st, told them to cancel the service. Pandora provides the same music for free.

She said she would honor last years 77 buck deal, told her no because it was not 77 bucks it was 77 plus "fees" . She threw in a 10 buck credit, so my card was charged $74.85 for the year.

5 minute phone call, told them my cell battery was dying work fast or no deal :lmao:

Battery was not dying but I hate flapping on the phone.

still goin. they offered me 2 free months at first. i told them it was still too much and i wanted to cancel the service. they put me on hold and came back with the 77 offer. they said it came out to 92$ with royalty fees etc. i have an internet account also. saved me $87...

Free plan was up the 23rd. Still going... for now

EDIT: At the end of the month (NOV) it shut off. Just doing the hard drive for now, my drive isn't long enough to justify it!

so I tried the tactics here for my renewal and was offered $12.95/mo lol. I told them go ahead and cancel but was disconnected while waiting to be transferred. I am not paying $146/per year. I can do without it. I'm really tired of csr with thick Indian accents. I can barely understand them.

??

Great advice everyone. I've got another question. Anyone running xm in two cars? What are the deals that can be had for dual service?

My 5 months for $20 subscription just ran out, and they tried to automatically renew my subscription at the full rate. It didn't go through because my card expired. I called to renew, and the nice Indian lady with the Irish name told me I was not eligible for any other offers. I told her to cancel my account, and she transferred me to someone in the US. He played a little sales game with me where he made an offer and I had to say either yes or no. The first one was something like $87 per year plus taxes and stuff, and the next was half that for six months. The third and final offer was $25 for 5 months. I took that, and added internet access. The whole thing came out to about $55 including all taxes and royalty fees, and its up in June. Apparently I have to call again before it renews and play this game all over again. Kind of annoying, but $14 a month for one radio before taxes isn't worth it. This plan works out to about $11 per month total, with internet access.

I renewed tonight for the same deal I've had the last 3 years:

Renewed for 365 days @ $94.99 ($73.41 + $11.23 (Royalty fee) + $5.92 (Indiana tax) = $94.99) = $7.92 per month for "XM Select" (1 Year Plan)

Okki

I said screw it and bluetooth and stream slacker. no commercials, i can pick and choose stations, ban artists/songs, and whatever else. I used my 3 months free and never renewed, after my last episode with them and their month of screwing things up before they refunded me my money.

I was sent notice from XM the other day for a year membership for about $105 after taxes, etc. I threw it away hoping they call me or email with new offer when it expires.
